Why Attendance Matters: A Look at the 20th Congress šļøšµš
When we cast our votes, weāre hiring representatives to show up and work on our behalf. This latest report from the Senate Legislative Journal Service (covering July 2025 to March 2026) gives us a clear picture of who is consistently at the table.
Why should we look at this closely?
Accountability: Senators are responsible for debating laws, overhauling policies, and conducting inquiries. Every absence is a missed opportunity to represent your voice in crucial decision-making.
Taxpayer Value: Legislative work is a full-time commitment funded by the public. High absenteeism raises questions about whether the mandate given by the voters is being fully honored.
Legislative Momentum: For bills to pass and committees to function effectively, physical presence is vital. Consistent attendance often correlates with more active participation in the democratic process.
Context Matters: While some absences have clear reasonsālike Camille Villarās maternity leaveāothers, like Bato Dela Rosaās 31 missed days, highlight a significant gap in presence that voters deserve to understand.
The Standouts:
A big salute to the 11 Senators with Complete Attendance. Showing up for all 58 session days demonstrates a high level of dedication to the daily grind of governance.
How does your representativeās record look? Letās keep the conversation focused on performance and transparency. š
