ILOILO PROVINCE RAMPS UP FIGHT AGAINST RABIES WITH MASSIVE VACCINATION AND NEUTERING ROLL OUT
In a steadfast commitment to ensuring public health and achieving a rabies-free province, the Iloilo Provincial Government, has achieved significant milestones in its Rabies Prevention and Control program. Thru the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet), headed by Dr. Darel B. Tabuada, extensive vaccination and neutering campaigns have been aggressively rolled out across all five districts of the Province.
โThe continuous momentum of this program has been sustained by the strategic roll-out of Government resources. The first batch of anti-rabies vaccines was successfully distributed during the first week of February 2026, sparking the initial wave of municipal immunizations. To further strengthen the campaign, the second batch of vaccines was officially released starting May 15, 2026, ensuring a continuous supply for 43 LGUs.
Alongside immunization, population control remains a vital pillar of the Province's rabies eradication strategy. Through surgical sterilization, the OPVet has successfully managed stray and domestic pet populations, minimizing the stray animal density that often accelerates rabies transmission.

RABIES AWARENESS MONTH 2026: Barotac Viejo Intensifies Rabies Fight with Awareness Caravan, Advocacy and Free Spay/Neuter Drive
The Barotac Viejo Gymnasium transformed into a hub for public health and animal welfare today, March 25, 2026, as the municipality through the leadership of Mayor "Bong-bong" Nielo Tupas, became the center of the Provincial Rabies Awareness Month celebration.
The day began with a vibrant awareness caravan through the townโs major streets, visually affirming the local governmentโs commitment to achieve a rabies-free community.
โThe eventโs centerpiece was the Rabies advocacy delivered by Dr. Rouena Vivien Yonzon and the collaborative effort extended by OPVet-Iloilo Surgical Team and Dr. BJ Jalando-on of Ajuy, which provided free neutering services to local pet owners. By addressing population control, the initiative targets the root of rabies transmissionโmanaging the stray animal population to ensure long-term community safety.

โโThe Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, in collaboration with DepEd, continues its commitment to public health through recent advocacy programs held at Guimbal National High School and Rizal Elementary School, Pototan.
โ
โโThese sessions focused on the prevention of rabies and the promotion of animal welfare. We are pleased to note that both events were highly successful, largely due to the active participation of the students at both campuses. Seeing our learners engage so deeply with these health initiatives is a major step toward our goal of a rabies-free community.
โ
โโThank you to the faculty and staff of GNHS and Rizal ES for their warm welcome and support!
