Social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok, play a vital role in the dissemination of information. It has has changed the way we communicate, do business, get our daily news fix and so much more. The most obvious pros of using social networks are the ability to instantly connect with people, know real-time news and information discovery, great opportunities for business owners, and for general fun and enjoyment. However, it is no secret that there's also a dark side in using social media platforms. There is the rise of misinformation and fake news. The freedom to post any content given to social media users, paired with the lack of accountability from social media platforms enabled the proliferation of fake news. Edwin A. Pirote Jr. of Barangay Tap-oc, Molo responsibly uses social media platforms and would like to stop or discredit fake news peddlers.

“I am always using Facebook as my social media, wherein I can always get updated with the information or news because may radio station or news feed. Pwede ka man ka express your opinion or comment as long nga responsible ka whatever nga gina post mo. I can also advice on this site to stop spreading fake news or disinformation.”
- Edwin A. Pirote Jr.

We must always remember that social media is a powerful tool since its strong influence in the country can shape society’s opinion on any individual or issue. We all must learn how to responsibly exercise our freedom to post content on our respective platforms, in accordance with the right to free speech, and of expression. We encourage everyone to report or flag posts that are considered false or misleading and we must always put in mind to think before we click.

THE CALL FOR LIGTAS BALIK-ESKWELA! 📣📚

Covid-19 pandemic has brought many challenges and one of which is the access to inclusive and quality education. With the inevitable shift to online and modular classes, both have their own share of advantages and disadvantages. Students had to face an overwhelming increase in academic workload, internet connectivity issues, and lack of physical interaction with peers. This has brought a bigger question of what the goal of our education really is: for learning or for mere compliance?

This is why the call for “LIGTAS BALIK-ESKWELA” is at a height. This is an inclusive campaign that considers the welfare of students, teachers, and school staff by encouraging long-term, sustainable plans of action for education. In the simplest term, this pushes for a safe return to school despite the Covid-19 pandemic. John Alfred S. Gallano of Barangay Tap-oc, Molo is one of those who wishes for face-to-face classes to resume.

“Madamu ako na encounter nga problem specifically sa signal kag money pang load para maka join sa online class. If i were to ask mas favor ako nga mabalik na ang face to face class because iba ang learnings kon may direct inter action sa teacher.”
- John Alfred S. Gallano

Learning should not be equated to the number of tasks submitted on time, rather, it should mold students to reflect on the world around them, to go beyond their echo chambers, and challenge what they already know. Education will always be a right rather than a privilege.

DENGUE ALERT! 🚨🦟

As the rainy season is coming, we need to be vigilant and intensify preventive measures against illnesses, especially Dengue. The Iloilo City Government with the leadership of Mayor Jerry Treñas highly encourages residents to do our part in protecting our children, our family and community against vector-borne diseases through constant clean-up in our surroundings and being responsible in throwing our garbage properly to avoid adding more breeding places for the vectors. Elsie Bayotas of Barangay Tap-oc, Molo continuously practices habits that will protect us all in our homes and our community.

“It's rainy season naman kag aware naman kita nga damu lamok kag basi magka dengue kita or any member sang aton panimalay. Gani ako naga encourage sa kada panimalay nga mag panglimpyo, ipakulob amg sarang matiniran sang lamok para makabulig kita masugpo ang naga taas nga Dengue cases sa aton ciudad.”
- Elsie Bayotas

Let us all be reminded that prevention is always better than cure. Ilonggos, stay alert and always be safe!
