Leganes, Iloilo -- Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) once again joined forces for a coastal cleanup drive at the Leganes Integrated Katunggan Eco Park (LIKE) in Leganes, Iloilo on May 29, 2026. The cleanup initiative was organized by the MPIW, the JV company for water distribution of MIWD and Metro Pacific Water. Employees from MIWD gave their full support of the activity, reinforcing the collaborative spirit between the two organizations in driving corporate social responsibility (CSR) endeavors aimed at protecting Iloilo’s natural resources. Several agencies also lent their support in full force to the cleanup activity, such as the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The coastal cleanup event would be the fifth time that MIWD has focused its environmental efforts on the Katunggan Eco Park. In the previous years, the MIWD had previouly dedicated its visits to consecutive mangrove tree planting activities on the Katungaan Eco Park. This year's cleanup drive reinforces the past year’s conservation efforts of both the MIWD and MPIW--ensuring that the previously planted trees can thrive in a pristine, debris-free environment.
The Katunggan Eco Park holds critical ecological value as an internationally recognized mangrove preserve, vital for coastal protection and marine biodiversity. Furthermore, the site is being earmarked to become a premier local ecotourism spot. Through consistent initiatives like this cleanup drive, the MIWD and MPIW continue to support and safeguard the Leganes Eco Park’s ecological health in however way they can, knowing that every cleanup and mangrove tree safeguarded is another tree that can maintain the ecological balance for future generations.
