The BPI GNCRDPSC is proud to participate in this year's Government Service Fair at the Manggahan Festival. Designed to promote the ease of doing business, the fair simplifies transactions across various government agencies.
At our booth, the center is providing technical assistance, distribution of IEC materials, and high-quality planting materialsโincluding vegetable seeds, grafted mango and grafted cashew.

Another successful training was conducted by the Bureau of Plant Industry โ Guimaras National Crop Research Development and Production Support Center on May 13โ14, 2026. The activity served not only as an opportunity to gain knowledge and technical skills, but also as a meaningful avenue to strengthen the participantsโ commitment to sustainable agriculture, safe food production, environmental protection, and healthy farming practices while preserving natural resources for future generations. The activity was attended by local organic farmers, Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) implementers, and organic agriculture practitioners from various municipalities of Guimaras.
๐ฑThe training formally opened on May 13, 2026 with a series of informative lectures delivered by resource speakers from the Central Office. Jenny Lyn A. Patungan, Organic Agriculture Program Focal Person and Mark Christopher E. Valdez, Organic Agriculture Program Alternate Focal Person, discussed various topics related to organic crop production, post-harvest handling, and processing based on the provisions of the Code of Practice (PNS/BAFS 377:2022).
๐ฑOn the second day, May 14, 2026, participants attended the Techno Fair, where they witnessed various ceremonial and promotional activities conducted by the Center. In the afternoon, hands-on activities were facilitated to provide participants with practical learning experiences. These activities included the preparation of organic fertilizers through vermicomposting and natural fermented solutions, proper post-harvest handling of crops, as well as the packaging and labeling of organic products.
With the knowledge, techniques, and experiences acquired from the activity, the Center looks forward to encouraging more farmers and agricultural practitioners to venture into organic agriculture โ promoting sustainable farming systems, producing healthier food for families and communities, and adopting farming practices that care for and protect the environment. This initiative likewise supports the agenda of Francisco โKikoโ Tiu Laurel Jr. for a more sustainable and resilient agriculture sector in the country.

The Bureau of Plant Industry โ Guimaras National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center shared valuable knowledge on the processing of high-value crops during an activity conducted on May 14, 2026. The event showcased various techniques and practices in processing agricultural products and was attended by 40 participants composed of young entrepreneurs, IWAG members, and farmers.
One of the highlights of the activity was the lecture and demonstration conducted by Reynro T. Herrera, a professor from Guimaras State University. He shared his expertise in the processing of camote chips, thoroughly discussing the proper techniques and important factors to consider in producing quality products.
Another notable part of the activity was the lecture of Erlyn N. Billones, who discussed Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). She also demonstrated the proper techniques in making mango atsara and mango preserve, giving participants practical knowledge and skills that they can apply in their own livelihood activities.
The activity was both enjoyable and educational, as participants actively engaged in preparing delicious snacks while learning valuable processing techniques for high-value crops.

BPI-Guimaras Successfully Conducts Agri-Techno Promotion Fest 2026
GUIMARAS โ The Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), through the BPI-Guimaras National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center, held the Agri-Techno Promotion Fest 2026 from May 12 to 15. The four-day event gathered farmers, government officials, and agricultural stakeholders to support food security and agricultural development.

From May 13-15, 2026, the Bureau of Plant Industry โ Guimaras National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center successfully conducted a three-day capability-building training focused on sustainable lowland vegetable and mushroom production, urban and peri-urban agriculture, climate-smart farming technologies, and sustainable food systems.
The activity gathered agricultural trainers, farmer associations, individual farm owners, representatives from the Department of Education, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology from across Guimaras to strengthen technical knowledge, leadership skills, and practical competencies in sustainable agricultural production.
๐ฑ Day 1 featured inspiring discussions on urban and peri-urban agriculture, sustainable farming systems, and value-adding strategies for agricultural products. Mr. Eduardo T. Tresico, owner of the Dreamerโs Valley, shared his success story and practical experiences in sustainable agriculture and circular economy practices. This was followed by a presentation from Mr. Carl Vincent D. Gapasin, Program Head Coordinator of the National Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Program, discussed the overview of Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture in the Philippines and shared valuable insights on sustainable food systems and community-based agricultural initiatives. Mr. Jieben Villarin, Market Specialist II of DA AMAD RFO 6, discussed strategies on maximizing the value of agricultural produce from harvest to market, emphasizing proper marketing, pricing, and value-adding techniques for vegetable products.
Day 2 focused on sustainable mushroom production, organic inputs, and climate-resilient technologies. Mr. Samuel Pielago, Agriculturist I of BPI-Guimaras, discussed the vermicomposting process and emphasized the importance of organic waste recycling and sustainable soil fertility management in agriculture. This was followed by the mushroom culture demonstration facilitated by Ms. Hazel Joy P. Pielago, Science Research Specialist I of BPI, who introduced participants to sustainable mushroom production and management practices. Ms. Almira B. Margallo, Research Assistant of BPI-Guimaras also presented innovative greenhouse technologies that support efficient and climate-smart crop production, followed by a demonstration of the Centerโs Solar-Powered Smart Greenhouse Facility.
On the final day, Asst. Prof. Homer E. Deloso, Faculty of Central Philippine University, discussed science-based pest management strategies for lowland crops, emphasizing sustainable and practical approaches for improved crop productivity. Engr. Julie Anne G. Cordero, Agriculturist II of BPI-Guimaras also discussed Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), highlighting the importance of safe, sustainable, and efficient farming methods that promote food safety, environmental protection, farmer welfare, and improved crop quality and productivity.
This training served as a meaningful platform for knowledge-sharing, innovation, and collaboration toward achieving food security, green livelihoods, healthy communities, and a more sustainable future. ๐ฟ๐

ASEAN Geographical Indication (GI) Summit Delegates visit BPI-Guimaras
May 15, 2026, around 80 delegates of ASEAN Geographical Indication (GI) Summit composed of representatives from different Southeast Asian countries, European Union Intellectual Property Office, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Department of Trade and Industry, and local producers and stakeholders involved in geographical indication initiatives visited BPI-Guimaras National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center.
The learning visit aims to provide the delegates with a better appreciation of Guimaras agricultural products and ongoing initiatives supporting geographical indications and local industry development.
Engr. Rhod S. Orquia, Supervising Agriculturist accommodated and briefed the delegates of the Centerโs research and development activities that contributed to the expansion of domestic and export markets, enhancing and sustaining production of export quality fruits and support to maintain and strengthen the GI seal of Guimaras mango.
Likewise, they were also toured on different facilities of the Center including the nursery were different strains of Guimaras โCarabaoโ mango is being propagated, Pant Genetic Resources area for the collection and conservation of different varieties of mangoes and on the orchard were matured technologies on mango production are being showcased.
The inclusion of the Center in learning visits like this shows the significant role of BPI-Guimaras in the mango industry both in the Philippines and its neighboring countries.
