Ngayong buwan ng Setyembre, ipakita ang pasasalamat at pagmamahal kina Ma’am at Sir. Halina’t makiisa sa Kagawaran ng Edukasyon (DepEd) mula Setyembre 5 hanggang Oktubre 5 para sa pagdiriwang ng National Teachers’ Month.

May temang “Together4Teachers,” sama-sama nating ipagdiwang ang husay at kadakilaan ng mga Pilipinong g**o na katuwang ng Kagawaran sa pagtupad ng isang bansang makabata at mga batang makabansa.

Tunghayan ngayong Martes, Setyembre 5, ang National Teachers’ Month Kick-off Celebration sa probinsya ng Bohol. Panoorin ang livestream ng programa sa DepEd Philippines official website, page, at YouTube Channel.

CARLES, Iloilo - Poverty does not define destiny, rather it is a choice. As man was created equal, it is up to the person how to access the blessings that God has freely made available to him/her. If he/she failed to do so, then, that’s where poverty comes in.

This is a success story of Ellayza A. Marcelino, 23 years old and a 4Ps household member from Barangay Guinticgan, Carles, Iloilo. She is the 2nd born child of Romel and Estrellita Marcelino. Both her parents are working. His father is a carpenter while her mother cooks in a nearby resort and sometimes, is a masseuse.

In her childhood, Ellayza witnessed their family’s struggles. This is the reason why she is careful of every step she made so as not to cause any burden to them. Instead, she helps her parents with their household chores and even assisted in their income-generating livelihood, particularly in selling fish and vegetables.

Also, she is maintaining her good academic
records so that she can finish her studies. With her perseverance, this young lady was able to achieve her goal. In the year 2022, she graduated with her bachelor's degree and early this year, she passed and became a licensed Civil Engineer.

"From a young age, I experienced the harsh realities of poverty within my struggling family. Despite the scarcity of resources, limited access to medical care, and a lack of opportunities, I made the conscious the choice to confront these challenges head-on" said Ellayza.

Ellayza also said that each day, she strove to be independent, managing her studies, household responsibilities, and personal development. This experience allowed her to cultivate invaluable life skills such as discipline, time management, and self-motivation.

As I reflect on my humble beginnings and the transformative impact of the genuine couple who believed and help me, I am humbled and filled with immense gratitude. Their unwavering support provided me with the necessary foundation to pursue a better life and broaden my horizon.

Today, I stand as a testament to the power of resilience and the indomitable human spirit. I am determined to break the cycle of poverty that has plagued my family for generations.

Armed with the lessons learned from my challenging upbringing and the opportunities afforded to me, I am committed to making a positive difference in the world.

I share my story not to seek sympathy but to inspire others facing similar circumstances. I want to be a beacon of hope, reminding them that with determination, hard work, and the support of kind-hearted individuals, it is possible to overcome even the most daunting challenges.

As I continue to grow and learn, I carry with me the lessons of my past and the profound impact that the kindness of strangers can have. I aspire to pay forward their generosity by empowering others, offering them the support and guidance they need to break free from the chains of poverty and fulfill their true potential.

No longer defined by my humble beginnings, I am determined to create a future filled with opportunities, not just for myself but for those who face similar struggles. I am committed to making a lasting impact, not only on my own life but on the lives of others, to create a world where every individual has a fair chance to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
