I would like to respectfully raise a serious concern regarding how the school handles threats involving students.

I understand that the school has a responsibility to verify information, investigate incidents properly, and avoid unnecessary panic. However, I honestly do not understand the logic behind keeping a threat involving students private simply because the institution wants to contain the information.

Whether the threat turns out to be an active threat, a false threat, or something allegedly said as a joke, the first priority should always be the safety and well-being of the students, not protecting the reputation of the institution.

If a student reports hearing another student say that they will shoot or harm their classmates, that information alone raises a legitimate safety concern. Whether the statement was serious, a joke, an expression of anger, or something that the investigation eventually determines was not credible, parents have a reasonable interest in knowing that a potential threat involving their children has occurred.

I understand that the school needs to verify information, investigate properly, and avoid causing unnecessary panic. But there is a big difference between responsible confidentiality during an investigation and withholding safety-related information from parents altogether.

My question is simple: When are parents supposed to be informed? When a threat is reported and being investigated, or only after something actually happens and someone gets hurt?

Parents cannot make informed decisions about the safety of their own children if important information is deliberately withheld from them.

We are not asking the school to create panic, publicly identify or shame a student, or interfere with an investigation. We are asking for transparency, timely communication, and reasonable assurance that our children are safe.

A school should never have to choose between protecting its reputation and protecting its students. Student safety should always come first.

𝗕𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗

“𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆”

One day, the alarm won’t go off early on a Sunday morning.

One day, you won’t be rushing to prepare water bottles, pack the bags, check the jerseys, and make sure everyone is ready for another game.

One day, there won’t be a basketball court waiting for you.

No early morning drives.
No crowded bleachers.
No parents chatting on the sidelines.
No shouting, “Defense!” until your voice is gone.

And one day, the weekends might just be… quiet.

But right now?

You’re in it.

You’re right in the middle of the sweaty jerseys, the long drives, the tired mornings, the missed plans, the victories, the losses, the laughter, and sometimes even the tears.

You’re watching your child grow not just as a player, but as a person.

You remember the shy kid who barely spoke on the court.
And now, you see the same kid encouraging teammates, making friends, celebrating someone else's basket, learning how to handle disappointment, and slowly finding confidence.

That’s the part we sometimes forget.

The scoreboard only tells us who won the game.

But it doesn’t tell us what happened beyond it.

It doesn’t show the friendships made.
The confidence built.
The lessons learned.
The discipline developed.
The courage to try again after a loss.
The memories created with teammates, coaches, and parents.

Yes, it’s tiring.

Sometimes, it’s inconvenient.

Sometimes, you wonder why you’re waking up this early just to spend an entire day inside a gym.

But someday, you’ll look back and realize…

Those were the days.

So don’t rush through them.

Sit in the front row.

Take too many videos.

Cheer embarrassingly loud.

Celebrate the small improvements.

Let them know you’re proud not only when they score, but when they hustle, share the ball, encourage a teammate, get back up, and keep going.

Because they won’t be this age forever.

The jersey will eventually become too small.

The shoes will eventually be replaced.

The weekend tournaments will eventually end.

And that little boy or girl you’re cheering for today will eventually grow up.
So while you’re still here…

Be present.
Enjoy every game.
Every drive.
Every high five.
Every messy, sweaty, loud, beautiful weekend.

Because beyond the scoreboard, beyond the wins and losses, beyond the trophies and statistics…

you are watching your child grow.

And that is a season you will never get back.

So soak it all in.

This is the good stuff.

Because the greatest victories aren't always recorded on the scoreboard.
