Yesterday, during the 44th Regular Session of the 15th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the Province of Iloilo, the proposed ordinance 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝐒. 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐣𝐚𝐫 granting updated benefits and incentives to members of the Barangay Tanod was approved on Second Reading 🏛️📄

The measure underwent thorough discussion on the legislative floor, where inputs, clarifications, and recommendations were raised to further strengthen the proposed ordinance and ensure responsive support for Barangay Tanods across the province 🤝✨

📍On May 5, 2026, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Iloilo approved the 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐚 (𝐁𝐁𝐃) 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞— a direct response to the rising number of drug-related incidents at the grassroots, including recent buy-bust operations involving barangay officials themselves.

Authored by 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝐒. 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐣𝐚𝐫, Chairperson of the Committee on Public Order and Security, the ordinance organizes barangay officials, tanods, BHWs, SK officials, and accredited civic groups into a community watch against illegal drugs, with monetary rewards of ₱10,000 to ₱30,000 for information leading to lawful arrests — the higher amounts applying when the suspect is a Kagawad, SK Official, or Punong Barangay.⚖️

To prevent abuse, the ordinance is equipped with 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬:
🔹 Informants may report to 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩— the Punong Barangay, Mayor, Chief of Police, PDEA Officer, IPG Focal Person, or the Governor.
🔹 Rewards are released only if the information is 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘, 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙙, 𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙤𝙗𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙙, 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙖 𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙧 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙡𝙮 𝙛𝙖𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨.
