In her oversized pink shirt, clutching a small panda toy, little Laila stood quietly beside her baby sister Mia at the Immunization Health and Wellness Fair in Estancia, Iloilo. Her eyes never strayed far from Mia, who rested in their mother's arms with a pink ribbon in her hair and curiosity shining through her big eyes.
When it was time for Mia's vaccination, tears came for a moment, as they often do. But Laila stayed close, watching over her little sister with the quiet concern only an ate can give. In that simple act of standing by her side, she became a reminder that protection comes in many forms, from the comfort of family to the life saving protection vaccines provide.
Long after the tears fade, the protection remains. Just like Laila's watchful presence, vaccines are safe, effective, and built to safeguard children as they grow, explore, and dream. Because every child deserves the chance to face tomorrow healthy, protected, and ready for the future.

DOH WV CHD Unifies Clinical Care for Acute Infectious Diarrhea Across Western Visayas
The DOH WV CHD Food and Waterborne Diseases Prevention and Control Program successfully conducted the Training on the Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Acute Infectious Diarrhea in Children and Adults from May 20โ22, 2026, at the Zuri Hotel, Iloilo City. This vital health initiative brought together dedicated doctors, nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals from various Local Government Units (LGUs) across Western Visayas to strengthen and standardize the management of food and waterborne diseases.
The three-day training aimed to build the capacity of health workers in the accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and proper management of various FWBDs in both pediatric and adult patients. Beyond clinical skills, the program emphasized empowering these local health workers to communicate critical health and prevention concepts effectively within their respective communities.
The training featured expert resource persons who provided critical insights into age-specific clinical protocols. Dr. Roumilla B. Mendoza, MMBM, FPPS, DPSPGHAN, a pediatric gastroenterologist and Associate Professor IV at the College of Medicine, West Visayas State University, discussed the clinical management and treatment guidelines for pediatric cases. Meanwhile, Dr. Rogelio Engada, Jr., FPCP, a gastroenterologist, specializing in digestive and liver diseases, covered the management of acute infectious diarrhea in adult patients, as well as prevention and control measures. To bridge theory and practice, the participants underwent workshops and simulation exercises designed to directly apply their learnings.
Anchored on the 8-Point Action Agenda of the DOHโspecifically Action Agenda 2: Ligtas, dekalidad, at mapagkalingang serbisyoโthe activity was spearheaded by the Regional FWBD-PCP Team, composed of Dr. Ma. Femie Japitana (EOH Section Head), Ms. Airene Legarda (Regional FWBD Program Coordinator), Ms. Nitz Marie Villaluna (Regional FWBD Program Nurse Coordinator), and Ms. Trixean Pauline Guarnes (Administrative Aide III).
