Occupational Safety and Health: Use of Safety Harnesses

Safety harnesses are vital personal protective equipment for working at height. They securely attach the worker to a stable anchor, arresting falls and preventing serious injury or death. Proper fitting, correct attachment, and regular inspection are essential to ensure effectiveness. Used correctly, harnesses provide reliable protection and are a key safeguard in fall prevention systems.

Occupational Safety and Health: Fall Protection Safety

Falls are a leading cause of workplace injury and death, making fall protection a critical part of occupational safety. Effective management begins with identifying elevated work areas, edges, or unstable surfaces as hazards.

Control follows a clear priority: first eliminate the need to work at height; if not possible, use engineered solutions like guardrails or platforms. When risks remain, implement safe work procedures and training, and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment such as harnesses and lanyards. Regular inspections and strict compliance prevent accidents, protecting lives and maintaining a safe work environment.

The BOSH for SO1 is an 8-hour occupational safety & health orientation plus Training of Trainers designed to impart knowledge & skills on basic concepts & principles of OSH to enable potential safety officers to implement their company's OSH program.
