June 4, 2026, Iloilo City. The National Food Authority (NFA), in line with the directive of the present administration to strengthen farmers’ productivity and ensure national food security, continues to advance the implementation of the Masagana Agri-Food Infrastructure Modernization (MAFIM) Program in Western Visayas.

Acting Deputy Administrator John Robert R. Hermano, together with Regional Manager Rodolfo W. Corpuz, conducted today inspection of the project and convened with representatives from CB Garay Builders and GRAINSCO—the contractors responsible for civil works and equipment—to assess the progress of ongoing MAFIM projects in the region.

The MAFIM Program, a Php93-billion flagship initiative of the Department of Agriculture spearheaded by the NFA, aims to modernize post-harvest facilities nationwide. It is designed to enhance agricultural productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and ensure the country maintains a 15-day national rice buffer stock. The program also seeks to significantly improve drying and milling capacities across key agricultural areas.

Western Visayas, particularly Iloilo province, is among the major beneficiaries of the program. Ongoing projects are currently being implemented at the following sites: - Brgy. PD Monfort North in Dumangas ; Poblacion C in Duenas; and Barangay Quintin Salas in Jaro, Iloilo City.

To ensure the readiness, efficiency, and quality of rice mills and dryers, all facilities will undergo rigorous testing and evaluation by the Agricultural Machinery Testing and Evaluation Center (AMTEC), the country’s premier reference institution for agricultural and fisheries machinery testing. The completion of the MAFIM projects in Western Visayas is targeted by the end of June 2026.

These developments mark a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize the country’s agri-food infrastructure and reinforce long-term food security. The NFA remains committed to supporting Filipino farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector through sustained infrastructure development and modernization initiatives.

Iloilo City, June 2, 2026 — The National Food Authority (NFA) Western Visayas, in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI, conducted the verification, adjustment, and calibration of its metrological equipment on June 2, 2026, at the NFA facility in Quintin Salas, Jaro, Iloilo City.

The activity aims to ensure the accuracy and reliability of equipment used in the agency’s day-to-day operations. This initiative is aligned with industry regulations and international calibration standards, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to quality service and operational efficiency.

The calibration process included thorough verification of equipment performance and the issuance of corresponding calibration certificates to confirm compliance with required standards. Mr. Jess Rey P. Umadhay, Project Technical Assistant IV of DOST Region VI, led the on-site calibration of twenty-three (23) metrology equipment units located at the NFAWestern Visayas Regional Office Laboratory and the Iloilo Branch Office Laboratory.

NFA Regional Manager II Rodolfo W. Corpuz emphasized that the initiative is part of the agency’s continuous efforts to enhance service delivery to its stakeholders. He noted that maintaining properly calibrated metrological equipment is essential in upholding the quality and integrity of NFA services.

This collaboration highlights the shared commitment of NFA and DOST to promote accuracy, accountability, and excellence in government operations.

ILOILO CITY, Mayo 28, 2026 – Bilang bahagi ng pagpapalakas ng ugnayan at koordinasyon sa mga katuwang na ahensya, dumalo ang kinatawan ng National Food Authority (NFA) Western Visayas sa ginanap na Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Network Meeting sa Days Hotel by Wyndham, Iloilo City ngayong Mayo 28, 2026.

Pinagsama-sama ng pagtitipon ang mga kinatawan mula sa Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), sektor ng kabataan, negosyo, akademya, at media upang higit na mapagtibay ang kolaborasyon at sama-samang pagkilos laban sa malnutrisyon sa rehiyong Kanlurang Visayas.

Tinalakay sa pulong ang kasalukuyang kalagayan ng nutrisyon sa Western Visayas, tema ng Nutrition Month, pagtatalaga ng convenor bawat network, mga aktibidad ng National Nutrition Council (NNC) para sa Calendar Year 2026, at presentasyon ng wellness program ng SECA Presentation of Wellness Pro, Inc.

Binigyang-diin sa pagpupulong ang kahalagahan ng tuloy-tuloy na kooperasyon sa pagitan ng SUN Network, mga Local Government Units (LGUs), at mga partner organizations sa pagpapatupad ng mga programang may kaugnayan sa nutrisyon upang makamit ang mga layunin ng Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028.

Bilang katuwang na ahensya, patuloy na sumusuporta ang NFA sa mga layunin ng NNC at PPAN sa pamamagitan ng pagsusulong ng food and nutrition security, pagtugon sa mga kalamidad at emerhensiya, at pakikilahok sa mga lokal na pagsusuri at convergence activities.

Ang SUN Network ay nagpapatupad ng multi-sectoral na mga hakbang sa mga lalawigan ng Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, at Negros Occidental upang labanan ang lahat ng anyo ng malnutrisyon sa rehiyon.

Dumarami ang suplay ng palay sa mga bodega ng NFA sa Capiz matapos itaas ang buying price. Kahit hindi pa peak harvest season, patuloy ang pagbebenta ng mga magsasaka—patunay ng tiwala sa programa ng pamahalaan. Tiniyak din ng NFA ang kalidad ng binibiling palay at patuloy na suporta sa ating mga magsasaka at seguridad sa pagkain. 🌾

Bilang bahagi ng patuloy na pagsisikap na mapanatili ang mataas na kalidad ng operasyon ng mga Post-Harvest Facilities (PHF), personal na nagsagawa ng inspeksiyon si Rodolfo W. Corpuz, Regional Manager II ng National Food Authority (NFA) Western Visayas, sa mga PHF ng NFA Capiz Branch Office noong May 26, 2026.

Sa isinagawang pagbisita, binigyang-diin ni Regional Manager Corpuz ang kahalagahan ng maagap at regular na preventive maintenance upang matiyak na nananatiling nasa optimum operating capacity ang mga pasilidad. Aniya, mahalaga ito upang higit na mapabuti ang serbisyong naibibigay sa mamamayang Capiznon, lalo na sa usapin ng maayos na pag-iimbak at pangangasiwa ng suplay ng palay at bigas.

Kasabay nito, patuloy ding isinasakatuparan ng NFA Capiz Branch ang iba’t ibang infrastructure projects sa ilalim ng Masagana Agri-Food Infrastructure Modernization (MAFIM) Program.

Kabilang sa mga kasalukuyang proyekto ang sumusunod:

1. Repair/Rehabilitation of Bolo Warehouse at pagpapataas ng Elevation ng Bolo Warehouse B & C kabilang ang upgrading ng drainage system; 2. Repair/Rehabilitation/Upgrading ng Warehouse sa Dumalag, Capiz; 3. Repair/Rehabilitation/Upgrading ng Warehouse sa Sigma, Capiz; at 4. Repair/Rehabilitation/Upgrading ng Warehouse sa Banga, Aklan.

Ang MAFIM ay isang pangunahing inisyatiba ng Department of Agriculture (DA) at ng National Food Authority (NFA) na nakatuon sa konstruksyon, pagkukumpuni, at rehabilitasyon ng mga bodega ng NFA sa buong bansa. Layunin nitong palakasin ang kakayahan ng bansa sa national buffer stocking at higit na masuportahan ang mga lokal na magsasaka. Sa pamamagitan ng mga programang ito, muling pinagtitibay ng NFA ang kanilang mandato na tiyakin ang sapat, ligtas, at maayos na suplay ng bigas para sa sambayanang Pilipino habang isinusulong ang modernisasyon ng mga pasilidad pang-agrikultura sa rehiyon.
