Hi Everyone! Let us introduce to you Sigla Mini Mart, a non-profit social business with a mission to provide decent work and income opportunities for vulnerable people - most specifically to deaf and low-income women.

Upon visiting their store, we met Ymille, one of the store staff. She welcomed us with the nicest smile on her face and she was able to serve the customers without her disability getting in the way.

The store is located at Agora Bldg 2, Col Lagman St., Camp Crame, Quezon City, Metro Manila. We can communicate with them through English writing. They sell different kinds of healthy foods and drinks.

You can visit their store or click on their page for more info.

Let us support and empower stores like Sigla Mini Mart.

Our team conducted a heart warming interview with Mr. Edgar Vargas a.k.a tolpu, 63 years old, a PWD residing at Licao-Licao, Bulacan. Mr Edgar wasn't born disabled. He previously works as a bus driver at Philtranco and shared that he lost his leg because of a horrible bus accident. His family lives in Bicol including his wife and 2 children. Unfortunately, due to the accident, he wasn't able to save enough money to return home. Now, he repairs shoes, a construction worker and doing massage services for a living.

During the first year of being disabled, it was really difficult for him to cope up in life as he experienced extreme bullying. People are belittling him and telling him "You're useless, you can't do this, you can't do that". As time goes by, he accepted his fate and get used to all of the bullying and accepted his alias "tolpu" or putol.

Mr. Edgar left an advice to his fellow PWDs that, "If they call you names, just let them". He firmly believes that what goes around, comes around. Despite being bullied by other people, he still choose to be a good man and put his trust to God. He chose to be strong to continue his life.

He unbelievably still very positve in life despite all the hardships he experienced. He brings joy by spreading good vibes to everyone. As of now, he still sends money to his children despite being abandoned by his wife and continues to be a responsible father the best way he can. He is also hoping that through this post, his children might see him and be proud of.

Despite the discriminations he face everyday, he still always choose to be a good man. He always reminds himself that disability is not a hindrance to work and that God has his back no matter what. 💜

Kindness is free, let's pass it on 🤗

Stay tuned for his inspiring story!

Our team interviewed Fe, 49 and Ezekiel, 60, a couple in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. They have 2 kids and together, they make and sell ‘suman’ or rice cake for a living.

Fe, the wife, is considered a PWD for her dwarfism. She has experienced discrimination throughout her life, the hardest is when her kids were still going to school. People were shouting “unano!” even while they are just walking and her children were also bullied by other kids. But still, they NEVER retaliated, instead, they remained strong and they always put everything in God’s hands.

It’s heartbreaking to know that there are people who don’t seem to know the negative impact of what they are doing. But happiness dominated our hearts while interviewing them because they still have the most positive view in life despite all the hardships they’ve been through. They kept on thanking us for visiting them and we really hope to visit them again soon! 💜

Thank you so much Ka Fe and Ka Ezekiel for sharing your story! 🫶
