🌱 GROWING TREES TODAY, GROWING RESILIENCE FOR TOMORROW! 💚
Today, September 14, 2026, Barangay Midatag, Leon B. Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte came together for Part 1 of the CLIMATE CARE Tree-Growing Activity, bringing together government agencies, community leaders, children and youth, families, civil society organizations, and development partners to plant native/indigenous trees and bamboo trees in identified geohazard-prone areas within the barangay.
The activity was conducted under the CLIMATE CARE Project—“Children, youth, and other vulnerable groups Leading and Influencing Mitigation and protection Actions Towards Empowered, protected, Climate-Adaptive and REsilient communities”, funded by the European Union in the Philippines and implemented by ChildFund Philippines with XAES Foundation Inc.
The activity was supported by government agencies and institutions, including DSWD programs—4Ps, Kalahi-CIDSS: PCRP, PDBBM, and Walang Gutom; CENRO-Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte; DepEd; AFP; PNP; BFP; and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Midatag.
Joining them were Subanen Tribal and Community Leaders, CLIMATE CARE CBO Facilitators and Association Members, Youth Champions, Sangguniang Kabataan, ECO Scouts, Children and Youth Association (CYA) Leaders, XAESFI-enrolled parents and children, 4Ps and Walang Gutom beneficiaries, DOLE-TUPAD participants, and the wider Midatag community. đź’š
More than planting seedlings, the activity was a concrete action under the project's Nature-based Solutions (NbS) approach for environmental restoration, protection, and disaster-risk reduction.
Native trees and bamboo can help stabilize soil, reduce erosion, support watersheds, provide habitat for biodiversity, and strengthen community resilience to climate-related hazards. Bamboo also has the potential to support sustainable livelihood opportunities through responsible propagation, management, harvesting, and utilization.
Equally important was the active participation of children and youth, showing that they are not only beneficiaries of climate action, but active partners and part of the solution.
Planting is only the beginning. The trees and bamboo planted today will need continuous care, protection, monitoring, and proper management to ensure that they grow and provide long-term benefits to the community.
And the action continues tomorrow in Sibalic, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte, for Part 2 of the CLIMATE CARE Tree-Growing Activity.
Together, let us continue turning collective action into healthier ecosystems, safer communities, sustainable opportunities, and greater resilience for generations to come.
🌱 Plant today. Care tomorrow. Grow resilience together.
SALAMAT SA TANAN NGA NAKIG-UBAN!
