PCIC Provides Indemnity cheques to Iriga City Farmers Affected by Calamities and Crop Threats
On February 27, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) Regional Office 5 disbursed indemnity checks totaling ₱534,622.31 to 66 farmers in Iriga City, offering much-needed support to those impacted by past typhoons, as well as pest and disease outbreaks.
The distribution activity was facilitated by PCIC representative Mr. Romnick Gubot, with assistance from the City Agriculture staff. The aid primarily reached rice farmers and those cultivating high-value crops—sectors particularly vulnerable to environmental and biological challenges that can swiftly derail harvests and income. City Agriculturist Mr. Arjay Ramirez was also present to lend support, highlighting the collaborative effort between national agencies and local government units (LGUs) to deliver assistance where it is most needed.
During the event, Mr. Gubot emphasized the importance of proactive protection for farmers, urging them to continue availing of PCIC’s insurance programs. These initiatives serve as a safety net against unforeseen setbacks, helping farmers recover faster and sustain their operations. He also expressed gratitude to the local government for its role in coordinating the distribution, noting that effective partnership between national and local bodies is key to ensuring aid reaches intended beneficiaries efficiently.
