Courtesy Visit to Vice Governor Abdusakur M. Tan

July 22, 2025| The Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission Sulu( BHRC SPO) conducted a courtesy visit to Vice Governor Abdusakur M. Tan to extend their well wishes on his recent assumption to office. During the meeting, the BHRC SPO provided a brief update on the human rights situation in Sulu. The discussion also touched on the province's exclusion from the BARMM, where the Vice Governor gave reassurance that no one will be left behind. He also presented the proposed design of the soon-to-be-constructed, state-of-the-art Sulu Hall of Justice which is a testament to his commitment to human rights, justice, rule of law, and development in the province.

Day 4 of the 𝐁𝐑𝐇𝐂-𝐒𝐏𝐎’𝐬 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐧 focused on Human Rights Education on Children’s Rights for Right Holders, attended by children aged 18 and under from Barangay Tulay.

The session was hosted by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐓. 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐡𝐚𝐦j𝐚, Administrative Officer II, and began with an invocation led by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐝j𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐝j𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢, Administrative Aide. 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐈𝐛𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐔. 𝐒𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐢, Provincial Director, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the importance of protecting and promoting the rights of children.

Participants learned about Basic Human Rights through a lecture by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐎𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐤𝐡𝐭𝐚𝐫 J. 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢, Special Investigator IV, followed by a discussion on Republic Act No. 7610, the law protecting children against abuse, exploitation, and discrimination delivered by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐑𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐚 𝐔. 𝐀𝐛𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐛, Special Investigator III.

The program ended with a meaningful closing message from 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐝j𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐝j𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢, who spoke from the heart as a former child rights advocate, encouraging the youth to know and stand up for their rights.

Each vote is a voice. And on this day, we talked about what it means to be heard.

Day 5 of the Human Rights Caravan brought together duty bearers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Representatives from the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) for a deeper look into one of our most powerful rights—the right to vote.

The program began with an invocation by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐝j𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐝j𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢, Administrative Aide III followed by an opening message from 𝐌𝐫. 𝐎𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐤𝐡𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢, Special Investigator IV. Guiding the flow of the event was 𝐌𝐬. 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐓. 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐡𝐚𝐦j𝐚, Administrative Officer II who served as the day's host.

On the fourth day of the Human Rights Caravan, the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC) – Sulu brought legal services closer to those who need it most.

Headed by 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐈𝐛𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐔. 𝐒𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐢, Provincial Director of BHRC Sulu, legal assistance was extended to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) with the support of dedicated legal professionals: 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐑𝐢z𝐚 F𝐥𝐨𝐫 Z. 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 from the Public Attorney’s Office, 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐀. J𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐥, Associate Professor at MSU-Sulu, and 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐇𝐚z𝐫𝐚 𝐀. 𝐈𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦, Associate at ETIRMAS Law Office.

A total of 373 PDLs at 𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐮 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 J𝐚𝐢𝐥 received free legal consultations and support, ensuring that their concerns were addressed with professionalism, empathy, and a strong commitment to justice.

The activity was held as part of BHRC Sulu’s continuing efforts to uphold the rights of all individuals and make legal services more accessible, especially to those who need them most.
