READ | DILG ramps up LGU, Barangay preparation for peaceful and safe Undas 2026
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has called on all Local Government Units (LGUs) to step up measures to ensure the safe and peaceful observance of Undas 2026 and the long weekend holiday.
Under the Local Government Code, LGUs are responsible for ensuring peace and order in their respective jurisdictions and safeguarding the welfare and safety of their communities.
Through a memorandum circular, the DILG said LGUs must convene their Local Peace and Order Councils to plan and prepare for the anticipated heavy influx of people in cemeteries, columbariums, and memorial parks in their areas.
LGUs must also mobilize barangay tanods, public safety forces, medical personnel, law and traffic officers, and other force multipliers and ensure the smooth flow of traffic in those convergence areas.
Based on DILG data, a total of 282,989 tanods across 42,010 barangays in the country are ready to be deployed as force multipliers alongside police forces.
Over 111,000 police personnel nationwide will also be patrolling high foot traffic areas for crime deterrence and increased police visibility during the period.
Several LGUs have already set up plans to manage crowds, maintain traffic flow, establish assistance points, and ensure the availability of emergency response services.
The Baguio City LGU, along with partner agencies and volunteers, is on top of βOplan Kaluluwaβ and βOplan Harabasβ for Undas 2026, strengthening its security preparations, traffic management, and fire prevention measures.
The Sagada Municipal Police Station, together with its Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) and Municipal Traffic Enforcers, conducted an information drive at Brgy. Suyo, focusing on theft prevention, home security, and vigilance when visiting cemeteries. Tourist information drives were also conducted in sites that recorded high tourist arrivals.
Mandaue City, meanwhile, has issued guidelines to maintain peace and order in the community and ensure public safety during Undas, locally known as the Kalag-kalag season.
The Malolos City LGU has also kickstarted its preparation, including asphalt over-laying and road patching near its cemetery in Barangay Panasahan to ensure safer and smoother travel for visiting motorists and pedestrians.
