RDEO Update | May 12, 2026
KCAST, in partnership with the Marsman Drysdale Foundation, Inc. (MDFI), conducted a site inspection at Sitio Biokong, Sampao, Kapalong, Davao del Norte, together with Sir Joel B. Quiรฑo, Program Officer of MDFI, for the proposed establishment of community greenhouses under the livelihood development program of the foundation.
The activity aimed to assess the suitability of the area and identify strategic interventions that will support sustainable agricultural production, food security, and community-based livelihood opportunities for local residents. The continuing partnership between KCAST and MDFI reflects a shared commitment to empowering communities through sustainable development initiatives, agricultural innovation, and inclusive extension programs.

The Kapalong Civil Society Organization Network (KACSON), the recognized Local Peopleโs Council (LPC) of the Municipality of Kapalong, and Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology (KCAST) conducted a coordination meeting on May 6, 2026, to discuss the proposed establishment of a development center for civil society organizations. The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration among academic institutions, local organizations, and community stakeholders in advancing participatory governance, capacity-building initiatives, and sustainable community development programs.
Present during the meeting were Mr. Ronel Geraldizo Dagohoy, KCAST Vice President for Academic Affairs; Mr. Daniel Pacheco, LGU Kapalong CSO Coordinator; and KACSON officials Mr. Ulysses Tomas E. Borinaga, Mr. Raul Zarry G. Rosario, and Mr. Ryan E. Sahay. The meeting served as an avenue for discussing collaborative strategies and institutional support mechanisms that would empower civil society organizations within the municipality.
This initiative reflects the shared commitment of KCAST and KACSON to foster inclusive development, strengthen civic participation, and build sustainable partnerships for community empowerment. Through collaborative engagement and unified action, the proposed development center is envisioned to become a hub for innovation, leadership, and meaningful social transformation in the Municipality of Kapalong.

The research team from the Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology (KCAST) successfully conducted a field-based research activity in Sitio Natampod, Pantaron Mountain Range, from April 27 to May 1, 2026. The activity was carried out in close coordination with Alpha Company, 89th Infantry Battalion, ensuring the safety and smooth implementation of the research undertaking. The team engaged with local communities and traversed the Pantaron Mountain Range to gather critical data and insights relevant to the study.
The research project, titled โExploring the Environmental Assets of the Pantaron Mountain Range as a Basis for Sustainable Policy Interventions for Marginalized Communities,โ is led by Ms. Jeaneth G. Molano (Project Leader). The research team is composed of Mr. Ronel Geraldizo Dagohoy, Engr. Rey Jhon L. Chavez, Ms. Reyna Jane C. Gontiรฑas, Mr. Rowel A. Peรฑora, Mr. Rhey M. Laurente, Mr. Ruel B. Toredez, Mr. Kim R. Laab, Mr. John Reycell A. Tuba, Mr. Jose L. Ramos, Mr. Jaybird S. Bantillo, and Mr. Joven Rhey Obliosca. The study is conducted with proper endorsement from relevant authorities and in partnership with key stakeholders to ensure ethical and inclusive research engagement.
This research aims to systematically assess and document the environmental assets of the Pantaron Mountain Range, providing a scientific foundation for the development of sustainable and inclusive policy interventions. By highlighting the ecological richness of the area and addressing the needs of marginalized and indigenous communities, the study contributes to evidence-based decision-making, environmental conservation, and community-driven development initiatives.
Through this initiative, KCAST reaffirms its commitment to research excellence, community engagement, and sustainable development. The collaboration among academic institutions, local government units, and security forces exemplifies a unified effort toward generating knowledge that empowers communities and preserves vital ecosystems for future generations.
