SOUTH COTABATO, 30 May 2026โSeveral fisherfolk associations in Lake Sebu and Tampakan received a total of 100,000 tilapia fingerlings during a distribution activity conducted in the Municipality of Banga on 29 May 2026.
The activity, implemented by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Special Area for Agricultural Development SOCCSKSARGEN Provincial Program Management Support Office of South Cotabato (BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO South Cotabato), aimed to support grow-out aquaculture projects and strengthen fish production activities under the SAAD Program Phase 2.
Among the recipients was the Lake Sebu Fish Cage Operators Livelihood Association (LASFOLA), which received 35,000 pieces of sex-reversed tilapia (SRT) fingerlings. Tampakan associations collectively received 65,000 SRT tilapia fingerlings, including the Buto Farmers Association (BUFA), Liberty Shine and Rural Improvement Club, Sta. Cruz Farmers Association (SCFA), Tampakan Muslim Vendors and Farmers Association, Maticura Farmers Association (MAFARAS), P**abato Integrated Farmers Association, and Liberty Peace and Development Volunteer Farmers Association (LPDVFA).
Representatives of the beneficiary associations expressed gratitude for the continued assistance provided through the SAAD Program and shared optimism that the interventions would help improve their aquaculture production and livelihood opportunities.
This distribution is a key initiative under BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO South Cotabato to promote food security, sustainable fish production, and better livelihoods for fisherfolk through community-based aquaculture projects.

SARANGANI PROVINCE, 23 May 2026โThe Kling Farmers and Fisherman Association received 9,000 pieces of tilapia fingerlings and an initial supply of aquaculture feeds during a stocking activity conducted in the Municipality of Kiamba under the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Special Area for Agricultural Development (BFAR SAAD) Program Phase 2.
The activity was facilitated by the BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN Provincial Program Management Support Office of Sarangani as part of its continuing support for sustainable aquaculture livelihood projects among fisherfolk beneficiaries.
The stocking activity aimed to strengthen fish production and ensure the continuous operation of the associationโs aquaculture project by providing quality fingerlings and starter feeds necessary for the early growth stages of tilapia production.
The association received seven bags of fry booster, seven bags of pre-starter zero, and seven bags of pre-starter feeds to support the development and survival of the stocked fingerlings.
Members of the association actively participated in the stocking activity alongside BFAR-SAAD personnel, demonstrating their commitment to sustaining the livelihood project and improving aquaculture production in their community.
The intervention is part of BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGENโs ongoing efforts to empower fisherfolk organizations through sustainable aquaculture initiatives that aim to improve productivity, strengthen food security, and create additional livelihood opportunities for coastal communities in Sarangani Province.

SARANGANI PROVINCE, 23 May 2026โPurok Gumamela Panargetan Association (PGPA) members participated in a Specialized Training on Coastal Resource Management (CRM) and received post-harvest materials and capture fishing gears during an activity conducted on 21 May 2026 in the Municipality of Malapatan.
The activity was spearheaded by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Special Area for Agricultural Development Program Phase 2 SOCCSKSARGEN Provincial Program Management Support Office of Sarangani (BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Sarangani).
The training aimed to enhance the participantsโ awareness and understanding of coastal resource management, particularly the importance of protecting marine and coastal ecosystems for sustainable fisheries and food security. Discussions during the lecture proper focused on coastal habitats such as mangroves, seagrasses, and coral reefs, emphasizing their role in maintaining marine biodiversity and supporting the livelihood of coastal communities.
Following the orientation, a ceremonial turnover of fisheries interventions was conducted for PGPA beneficiaries. The association received 15 styroboxes, 25 fiberglass tubs or banyeras, 20 sets of handlines, and 20 sets of multiple hook and line gears. These interventions are expected to improve the associationโs fishing operations and post-harvest handling activities.
PGPA President Antonio Parejo expressed gratitude to BFAR SAAD Program Phase 2 for the continuous support extended to their association, noting that the organization remains hopeful and prepared for future interventions and livelihood opportunities under the program.

SOUTH COTABATO, 22 May 2026โP**abato Farmers Agrarian Reform Cooperative (PFARCo) members participated in a Values Formation Workshop conducted on 21 May 2026 in Barangay P**a Bato, Tampakan, South Cotabato, as part of the continuing Social Preparation initiatives under the BFAR-SAAD Program Phase 2.
The activity gathered 40 cooperative members and focused on strengthening organizational values that align with the vision of the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program to promote sustainable livelihoods, unity, accountability, and community empowerment among marginalized sectors.
Facilitated by the BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN Provincial Program Management Support Office of South Cotabato, the workshop emphasized the importance of integrity, discipline, teamwork, and shared responsibility in sustaining organizational growth and livelihood projects. Discussions also highlighted the role of values-driven leadership in building resilient and self-reliant community organizations.
During the workshop, participants actively engaged in activities and group discussions to identify the cooperativeโs core values and long-term aspirations. Members reflected on how organizational principles and positive work ethics contribute to effective management, stronger cooperation, and improved implementation of livelihood interventions.
The activity also encouraged members to align their personal and organizational goals with the broader objectives of the SAAD Program, particularly in promoting inclusive development, responsible resource management, and sustainable economic opportunities in rural communities.
Participants expressed appreciation for the workshop, noting that the activity strengthened not only their understanding of organizational values but also their commitment to working collectively toward the cooperativeโs goals and future development.
The Values Formation Workshop forms part of BFAR-SAAD SOCCSKSARGENโs continuing efforts to empower beneficiary organizations through capability-building activities that develop both technical competencies and leadership values. SARANGANI PROVINCE, 21 May 2026โFisherfolk associations under the BFAR SAAD Program Phase 2 in Sarangani Province welcomed BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN Focal Person and BFAR XII OIC-Regional Director (RD) Eugene M. Casas during his visit to beneficiary associations in Alabel and Malapatan on 20 May 2026.
The visit included the Baluntay-Tokawal Agri-Fisheries Association (BaToAFA), Bangun Sayco Kauswagan Organization (BASKOG), Sapu Masla Fisherfolk Association (SAMAFIA), and Sapu Masla Manambanay Fisherfolk Association (SMMFA). It allowed the new OIC RD to interact with beneficiaries and assess their livelihood projects.
During the visit to BaToAFA in Alabel, the association received 7,000 tilapia fingerlings, along with feed ranging from fry booster to finisher. A ceremonial turnover and stocking activity followed, led by OIC RD Casas, PPMSO Sarangani personnel, and association members. The fingerlings were stocked in the associationโs nursery pond to support the continued operation and productivity of their aquaculture livelihood project.
After the stocking activity, BFAR XII officers and association members held a brief forum on the organization's current status and future plans. Members expressed gratitude for the continued support provided by the SAAD Program Phase 2 and shared their hopes for additional livelihood opportunities for individual members.
Meanwhile, OIC RD Casas also visited the fisherfolk associations in Malapatan, including SAMAFIA, SMMFA, and BASKOG. During the site visits, BFAR SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Sarangani personnel and local officials observed the associationsโ fish cages and ongoing livelihood activities. Beneficiaries shared that the support provided through the SAAD Program Phase 2 helped improve their income opportunities and enabled them to establish expanded fish cages for increased production.
The visit underscored BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGENโs ongoing commitment to supporting community-based fisheries livelihood projects through technical assistance and direct engagement with fisherfolk associations in Sarangani Province.

SARANGANI PROVINCE, 16 May 2026โFisherfolk beneficiaries from the Sapu Masla Fisherfolk Association (SaMaFiA) and the Sapu Masla Manambanay Fisherfolk Association (SMMFA) participated in a Specialized Training on Coastal Resource Management held in Malapatan on 14 May 2026.
The activity was facilitated by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Special Area for Agricultural Development Program Phase 2 SOCCSKSARGEN Provincial Program Management Support Office of Sarangani (BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Sarangani).
A total of 30 participants from the two associations attended the orientation, which focused on protecting coastal ecosystems and sustaining marine resources. Discussions highlighted the ecological value of mangroves, seagrasses, and coral reefs in supporting fisheries production and maintaining environmental balance in coastal communities.
Mr. Roel C. Marabulas of PPMSO Sarangani served as the resource speaker during the lecture session. Participants shared that the activity reminded them of the importance of protecting the coastal habitats surrounding their community, particularly the mangrove areas where many of them live and work.
The activity also provided an opportunity for association members and PPMSO Sarangani to discuss the current status of their organizations and preparations for upcoming SAAD interventions. Among the topics discussed were organizational financial practices, expansion of fish cages, and preparations for the expected distribution of feeds and milkfish fingerlings under the program.

SARANGANI PROVINCE, 16 May 2026โThe Madasigon Muslim Farmers and Fisherfolk Association (MMFFA) received fisheries interventions and joined an Orientation on Coastal Resource Management (CRM) held in Maitum on 12 May 2026.
The activity was conducted by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Special Area for Agricultural Development Program Phase 2 SOCCSKSARGEN Provincial Program Management Support Office of Sarangani (BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Sarangani).
The orientation aimed to equip beneficiaries with technical knowledge of Coastal Resource Management and raise awareness of the sustainable use and protection of marine and coastal resources. The program urged fisherfolk beneficiaries to adopt responsible fishing practices and champion environmental stewardship in their communities.
During the ceremonial turnover, the association acquired various fishing and post-harvest equipment, including five payao units, 15 styroboxes, 25 fiberglass tubs, 20 handlines, 20 multiple hook and line sets, 20 squid jiggers, and three DD net rolls. These resources are projected to enhance fishing efficiency, post-harvest management, and income opportunities for association members.
MMFFA Chairperson Datz R. Alog expressed gratitude to the BFAR SAAD Program Phase 2, stating that the interventions would greatly benefit the associationโs small-scale fisherfolk members and support their livelihood activities.
The event highlights BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Saranganiโs commitment to empowering fisherfolk associations. This is done through technical training, resource management instruction, and livelihood support. SARANGANI PROVINCE, 15 May 2026โMembers of the Asnalang 6 Fisherfolk Association (A6FA) and the Tinoto Fisherfolk Association (TFA) participated in a Specialized Training on Best Practices on Milkfish Grow-out Production in Marine Fish Cages conducted in Tinoto, Maasim, on 13 May 2026.
The activity was spearheaded by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Special Area for Agricultural Development Program Phase 2 SOCCSKSARGEN - Provincial Program Management Support Office of Sarangani (BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Sarangani). The training aimed to refresh and enhance beneficiaries' knowledge of proper milkfish culture management and sustainable aquaculture production in marine fish cages.
Mr. Roel C. Marabulas facilitated the orientation on fish cage preparation, stocking, and grow-out management, feeding management, and fish sampling and monitoring. Participants shared their plans and preparations for the arrival of milkfish fingerlings and feed, including repairs and maintenance of their fish cages.
The activity was attended by Regional Fisherfolk Director Loreto G. Baay and National Fisherfolk Director Dario M. Pedong as part of the celebration of Farmers and Fisherfolk Month. Mr. Baay emphasized that fishing remains a dignified livelihood for coastal communities. Mr. Pedong encouraged beneficiaries to strengthen their commitment to their associations and continue working together to sustain the livelihood interventions provided through the BFAR SAAD Program Phase 2.
The activity strengthened collaboration between BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN and the fisherfolk associations to promote sustainable milkfish production in Sarangani Province. SARANGANI PROVINCE, 15 May 2026โBangun Syco Kauswagan Organization (BASKOG) members participated in a Specialized Training on Food Safety and Quality Management for Fish and Fishery Products conducted in Malapatan on 11 May 2026.
The activity was organized by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Special Area for Agricultural Development Program Phase 2 SOCCSKSARGEN Provincial Program Management Support Office of Sarangani (BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Sarangani). The training focused on proper food safety practices, hygiene, sanitation, and quality management to help ensure the production of safe, marketable fishery products.
Lectures on Food Safety, Food Hazards, and Food Safety Law were facilitated by Mr. Aladen Makakua. Ms. Razzia Grae V. Nawa discussed Food Quality Management, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP).
The participants learned the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and proper handling, processing, packaging, and storage of fishery products. The discussions emphasized the importance of maintaining product quality and safety in producing fish value-added products for consumers and potential markets.
Participants expressed appreciation for the training and shared that the lessons provided practical knowledge that they can apply in their fish processing activities. The beneficiaries highlighted the importance of food safety and sanitation practices for improving their products and sustaining livelihoods.
The training forms part of BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN's continuing capability-building initiatives to strengthen fisherfolk organizations through technical support and sustainable livelihood development. Through activities such as this, the program continues to equip community organizations with knowledge and skills that contribute to safer fishery products, improved income opportunities, and stronger local fisheries enterprises.

SARANGANI PROVINCE, 15 May 2026โMembers of the Baluntay-Tokawal Agri-Fisheries Association (BaToAFA) strengthened their knowledge and skills in fish feed formulation and feed management during a Specialized Training on Fish Feed Formulation conducted in Baluntay, Alabel, Sarangani Province on 11 May 2026.
The activity was conducted by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Special Area for Agricultural Development Program Phase 2 SOCCSKSARGEN Provincial Program Management Support Office of Sarangani (BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Sarangani) as part of its continuing capability-building initiatives for aquaculture beneficiaries.
The training aimed to enhance beneficiariesโ understanding of proper fish feed formulation and sustainable feed management practices, while promoting the use of cost-efficient, locally available feed ingredients. It also provided participants with hands-on experience in preparing and producing feeds suitable for fry and grow-out stages of fish production.
During the lecture sessions, participants learned about the basic biology of tilapia, feed and feeding requirements, and the five major nutrient requirements essential for fish growth. The discussions were facilitated by PPMSO Sarangani personnel Mr. Romel Palimba, Ms. Charlene C. Radin, and Mr. Roel C. Marabulas.
As part of the demonstration activities, beneficiaries learned to compute balanced fish diets using the Pearson Square and Trial-and-Error methods. They actively participated in feed formulation exercises and confidently presented their computations to the group, reflecting a deeper grasp of the training concepts.
During the hands-on feed-making session, participants formulated fish feed using fish meal, copra meal, corn meal, and locally available ingredients such as banana meal, ipil-ipil meal, and kangkong meal. They successfully produced fry mash feeds with 40โ45% crude protein and pelleted grower feeds containing 30โ35% crude protein.
Through the continued support of BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Sarangani, fisherfolk beneficiaries are expected to improve aquaculture productivity, reduce feed costs, and adopt more sustainable and self-sufficient fish production practices within their communities.

COTABATO PROVINCE, 14 May 2026โBeneficiaries of BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPSMO Cotabato Province gained aquaculture feed formulation skills during a Technical Aqua Training conducted on 13 May 2026 at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM).
The activity, organized in partnership with the USM, aimed to help fisherfolk beneficiaries cope with rising commercial fish feed costs. Participants learned research-based methods to produce nutritionally balanced, cost-efficient aquatic livestock feeds.
Fisherfolk representatives from the SAAD Program Phase 2-covered municipalities of Tulunan, Pigcawayan, Alamada, Antipas, Aleosan, Banisilan, and President Roxas joined the hands-on workshop. The participants learned the proper procedures for mixing feed ingredients. They also learned how to balance nutrients necessary to support sustainable aquaculture production.
Ms. Leonila V. Papalid, Department Head of Fisheries at USM, facilitated the training and served as the resource speaker. She was assisted by Ms. Ritchel O. Torres. The facilitators emphasized making research-based fisheries technologies accessible and practical for local farming communities.
BFAR SAAD SOCCSKSARGEN PPMSO Cotabato Province continues to build capacity and support sustainable development. The participants' determination and the program's efforts drive progress toward a prosperous aquaculture sector in Cotabato Province.
