In her message, RED Lumayag emphasized the shared responsibility of all government institutions, including law enforcement agencies, in safeguarding the environment. 𝗣𝗔𝗠𝗢-𝗦𝗕𝗣𝗦 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗢𝗢 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗹, 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶 – In celebration of the Month of the Ocean and this year’s theme, “Sustaining Ocean Health, Sailing Resilient Nation,” the Protected Area Management Office of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (PAMO-SBPS), together with the Provincial Local Government Unit of Sarangani Province strengthened marine conservation and community engagement efforts through the SarBay Festival Reimagined 2026, held on May 22 at Ladol Beach, Alabel. The initiative transformed the usual festival celebration into a more environment-centered activity that encouraged communities to appreciate, protect, and take active part in conserving the shorelines and marine ecosystems surrounding Sarangani Bay.

DENR Region XII through PAMO-SBPS participated in various environmental activities including the SarBay Heroes Run, coastal clean-up, and beach forest planting. The event also featured the flagship SBPS mascots, where each character introduced themselves and shared their role in promoting awareness and conservation of marine life in Sarangani Bay.

Complementing these environmental activities, the Protected Area Management Board-SBPS, through the Integrated Protected Area Fund (IPAF), also distributed 100 sacks of rice to farmers and fisherfolk communities across Sarangani Province. The assistance aimed to support vulnerable coastal and upland communities that actively contribute to conservation efforts within Sarangani Bay. The initiative highlighted that sustaining ocean health goes beyond habitat protection, it also includes strengthening the resilience and well-being of communities whose livelihoods depend on healthy marine and coastal ecosystems.

A Reticulated python (𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘱𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴) measuring approximately 2.7 meters long and weighing more than 8 kilograms was successfully turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Banga (DENR-CENRO Banga) on May 26, 2026.

The wildlife was initially surrendered to the Barangay Hall of Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City after residents reported the presence of the large snake in their community. According to reports, the python had allegedly devoured a small goat prior to its capture.

Upon receiving the report from the barangay officials, personnel from DENR-CENRO Banga headed by CENR Officer Forester Pinky J. Maglasang immediately responded to ensure the safe retrieval and proper handling of the wildlife. After the proper documentation and assessment procedures were conducted, the reticulated python was safely transported and turned over to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center XII located in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat for further evaluation, care, and rehabilitation. The rescue center serves as a temporary refuge for rescued and confiscated wildlife species in the region before they are assessed for possible release back into their natural habitat.

𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐋𝐀, 𝐂𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐨 — The DENR-12 Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Matalam awarded land titles to three public educational institutions in Makilala, Cotabato, on May 25, 2026, securing government ownership of school sites covering a combined 57,356 square meters. The beneficiaries were Malasila National Vocational and Technical High School, Makilala Central Elementary School, and Batasan Elementary School during a ceremony held at Makilala Central Elementary School.

The land titles were issued under Special Patent Nos. SP-SCH-NCO-0151, SP-SCH-NCO-0157, and SP-SCH-NCO-0158 pursuant to Republic Act No. 10023, or the Act Authorizing the Issuance of Free Patent to Residential Lands. The issuance was facilitated through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order 2015-01, which streamlines the granting of special patents for public school sites administered by the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education. The policy aims to accelerate land titling processes, secure school ownership, and prevent potential disputes or closures affecting public educational institutions.

Forester Abdulnagib T. Ringia, Officer-in-Charge of CENRO Matalam, led the awarding ceremony attended by representatives from the Register of Deeds, educators, parent-teacher association members, barangay officials, and local government representatives from the recipient communities. 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region XII recently conducted the 1st Organizational Meeting on the Memorandum of Agreement for Overlapping Tenurial Instruments and Certificates of Title at the 3DENR Regional Office XII.

The meeting gathered key partner agencies, including DENR, NCIP, DAR, DEPDev, and NDMU-CoL, to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in addressing overlapping land tenurial concerns. The activity focused on harmonizing legal and technical processes and establishing a coordinated framework for resolving conflicting land claims within the region.

During the meeting, participants highlighted the importance of ground validation, clarification of vested rights and developed areas, sustainable TWG operations, and unified policies and communication among concerned agencies.

𝐊𝐎𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐃𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐘, 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐨 — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XII convened the 2nd quarter regular meeting of the Regional Convergence Initiative for Sustainable Rural Development (RCI-SRD) last May 19, at 9:00 AM at Greenstate Suites, this city.

The meeting gathered officials and representatives from partner agencies to discuss updates, accomplishments, operational concerns, and priority interventions under the convergence initiative. This manifests the reaffirming commitment of partner agencies to strengthen collaborative efforts toward inclusive and sustainable rural development in Region XII.

DENR XII OIC-Regional Executive Director Maria V. Lumayag was represented by Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Engr. Mama G. Samaon, who emphasized the importance of sustaining strong inter-agency partnerships and collaborative governance in addressing the needs of rural communities and ensuring the continued implementation of development initiatives despite existing operational challenges.

Among the major matters discussed during the meeting were the status of the Convergence Area Development Plan (CADP) in the Allah Valley Protected Landscape, the proposed adoption of the Upper Sepaka convergence area in Surallah, South Cotabato, the submission of accomplishment reports and operational plans, and the enhancement of coordination mechanisms among member agencies.

The body likewise agreed to strengthen communication and reporting systems, pursue coordination with the Provincial Government regarding the proposed “Dagyaw” Project, and sustain collaborative efforts toward the implementation of priority development interventions in identified convergence areas within the region. Through the RCI-SRD, partner agencies continue to reaffirm their commitment to advancing coordinated and responsive governance initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of rural communities in the region.
