VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — A local farmer secured a top spot at a national coffee competition here, highlighting the growing competitiveness of Soccsksargen’s coffee industry.

Mario Joey Tacan, from Polomolok, South Cotabato, placed sixth in the Robusta category at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Green Coffee Competition Philippine national round, which concluded May 31.

Tacan earned a cup score of 85.96 following a rigorous judging process that included green grading, roasting and cupping.

The event, held alongside the Bukidnon Coffee Festival from May 29 to 31, evaluated entries across three categories: Arabica, Robusta, and Excelsa.

The top winners from each category will represent the Philippines in the international round in Vietnam this August.

Local agricultural officials said the recognition reflects the potential of Region 12 producers to compete in specialty coffee markets through continuous quality improvement.

The annual competition aims to promote Southeast Asian coffee in the global market.

Layunin ng aktibidad na masuri ang kalagayan, pangangailangan, at kakayahan ng mga benepisyaryong mangingisda upang matiyak na ang tulong ay maipagkakaloob sa mga qualified na miyembro ng komunidad. Kabilang sa isinagawang validation ang onsite inspection, panayam, at pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga lokal na opisyal at mga residente ng lugar.

Matagumpay na isinagawa ang dalawang araw na “Training on Abaca Scrunch & Bag Making” para sa mga kababaihan at kabataan ng Bayan ng Lake Sebu sa pangunguna ng Office of the Provincial Agriculturist sa pamumuno ni Provincial Agriculturist Raul D. Teves katuwang ang OMAG Lake Sebu noong Mayo 25-26, 2026 sa Sa Balai Lake View Resort, Brgy. Poblacion sa bayan ng Lake Sebu.

Sa pamamagitan ng pagsasanay, nabigyan ng dagdag kaalaman at kasanayan ang mga kababaihan at kabataan sa paggawa ng abaca scrunch at mga bag na maaaring maging dagdag pagkakakitaan at kabuhayan gamit ang mga tirang materyales o scrap ng abaca. Ipinakita rin dito ang kahalagahan ng wastong paggamit at pagre-recycle ng mga natitirang materyales upang mapakinabangan pa ito sa malikhaing paraan.

Patuloy na isinusulong ng OPAG ang mga programang makatutulong sa pagpapalakas ng kabuhayan, pagpapaunlad ng lokal na industriya ng abaca at pagbibigay ng mas maraming oportunidad sa komunidad ng Lake Sebu.

𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 - Nagkaroon ng isang positibo at makabuluhang pagpupulong sa pagitan ni Mr. Chris Jayke S. Pacamalan, Representative ng Daesang Philippines Corporation sa Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental at ni Provincial Agriculturist Raul D. Teves kasama ang mga kinatawan ng tatlong kooperatiba sa South Cotabato - ang Topland Multi-Purpose Cooperative ng Koronadal City, POLO SN Multi-Purpose Cooperative ng Polomolok at San Jose Multi-Purpose Cooperative ng Banga.

Layunin ng nasabing pagpupulong na talakayin ang mga dagdag na oportunidad para sa pamimili at pagpapalawak ng merkado ng cassava mula sa mga magsasaka ng South Cotabato. Tinalakay rin ang posibilidad ng mas matatag na partnership sa pagitan ng mga kooperatiba at ng Daesang Philippines Corporation, isang Tapioca Starch Manufacturing Plant upang mapabuti ang marketing linkage at mabigyan ng mas siguradong merkado ang mga lokal na cassava growers.

Ipinahayag ni PA Teves ang kanyang suporta sa mga programang makatutulong sa pagpapataas ng kita ng mga magsasaka at pagpapalago ng industriya ng cassava sa lalawigan. Samantala, nagbigay naman ng positibong pananaw si Mr. Pacamalan hinggil sa potensyal ng South Cotabato bilang isa sa mga maaasahang pinagkukunan ng cassava para sa kanilang kumpanya. Sa katunayan, magsisimula na ngayong linggo ang delivery ng cassava fresh tubers mula sa mga nabanggit na Coop.

Inaasahang ito ay paunang mga hakbang tungo sa mas matibay na ugnayan ng pamahalaan, pribadong sektor at mga kooperatiba para sa patuloy na pag-unlad ng agrikultura sa South Cotabato.
