Two (2) local businesses from Lamitan City and Sumisip Municipality namely:
✨ Buahan Yakan Weaving Ass. Lamitan City
✨ UBFPC Upper Benembengan Farmers Producer's Cooperative

successfully secured their Certificates of Registration from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) for the month of September totalling to 14 registered trademarks for year 2026. This achievement was made possible through the active assistance of the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT) Basilan Province, which guided the entrepreneurs throughout the trademark application and registration process.

The successful trademark registrations help protect local brands from unauthorized use, strengthen consumer trust, and support the long-term growth of local enterprises. Through this initiative, MTIT continues to promote business formalization, encourage innovation, and create a more secure and competitive business environment in Basilan Province.

These registrations also contribute to Basilan's performance in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI), particularly under the Innovation and Economic Dynamism pillars, where intellectual property registrations are recognized indicators of local competitiveness and business growth. By supporting local entrepreneurs in protecting their brands, MTIT reinforces the city’s commitment to innovation, investment readiness, and sustainable economic development in the Bangsamoro region.

The Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT) - Basilan Provincial Office headed by Provincial Director Argie J. Sarco, PhD, through the collaboration of Industry Development and Investment Promotion (IDIP) and Enterprise and Trade Development (ETD) Divisions, successfully conducted a two-day Digital Marketing and Creative Content Development Training (Batch 2) on August 26-27, 2026 at the Negosyo Center, Maluso, Basilan.

The activity brought together 20 local industry stakeholders/MSMEs for an immersive learning experience designed to help local entrepreneurs adapt to the rapidly evolving digital marketplace.

Additionally, the activity was further strengthened through the valuable support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which provided a digital package consisting of gadgets, office equipment, and internet connectivity. These resources served as essential learning tools, enabling participants to actively engage in the hands-on sessions and maximize the training experience.

The MTIT Basilan expresses its sincere gratitude to its development partners and resource persons for their valuable contributions to the success of the activity. Special appreciation is extended to UNDP for its continued support in advancing digitalization and strengthening local enterprises; DICT Provincial Head Michael Jolo and Mr. Edric Laure for sharing knowledge and insights on digital marketplaces, digital platforms, and online business opportunities; Provincial Information Office Field Staff Mr. Christopher Rey Diaz and Mr. John Francis Lamprea for sharing expertise in photography, content creation, and online creativity; and the Local Government Unit of Maluso led by Hon. Mayor Kaiser Hataman for providing logistical support and for its continued commitment to strengthening local livelihoods, promoting local products through the Negosyo Center, and equipping local MSMEs with relevant skills and knowledge to enhance their competitiveness and grow their businesses.

More than a training, this two-day activity was a step toward building digitally capable MSMEs, strengthening local enterprises, and opening wider opportunities for Basilan products in the digital marketplace.
