Celebrating Indigenous Heritage: National Indigenous Peoples Month 2026

The Northwestern University Educational Resource Center (NWUERC) joins the nation in celebrating the 10th National Indigenous Peoples Month this October, with the theme “Katutubong Edukasyon, Unang Dekada: Unang Ani ng Pag-asa.”
In commemoration of this meaningful celebration, NWUERC proudly highlights the collection Indigenous Cultural Communities (Volumes 1–3), compiled and published by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). This valuable resource offers insights into the rich cultural heritage, traditions, histories, and lived experiences of Indigenous Cultural Communities in the Philippines.

This celebration underscores the importance of preserving Indigenous knowledge systems, respecting ancestral wisdom, protecting Indigenous Peoples’ rights, and promoting inclusive and culturally responsive education. It also recognizes the significant contributions of Indigenous communities to our nation's identity, learning, and cultural diversity.

Through its collections and information services, NWUERC reaffirms its commitment to fostering cultural awareness, supporting inclusive research, and promoting respect for Indigenous voices and heritage.

Explore, learn, and appreciate! We invite students, faculty, researchers, and the entire NWU community to visit NWUERC and discover resources that deepen understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions.

The Northwestern University Educational Resource Center (NWUERC), in collaboration with the VJSGSS through its Extension Services, conducted a seminar-workshop at the NWUERC E-Library, Main Library, for DepEd Laoag City school librarians and teacher-librarians-in-charge

This capacity-building initiative aimed to equip participants with practical digital skills in using Google Workspace to enhance library management, communication, collaboration, and information services. Through hands-on learning, participants expressed how much they enjoyed the workshop and shared that they had learned many valuable and practical skills that they can apply in their respective libraries and classrooms. Their enthusiasm and active participation reflected their eagerness to embrace digital innovation and explore new ways to improve library services and support teaching and learning.

The event was graced by Prof. Rowell Casil, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, who represented Dr. Charliemane A. Bullalayao, Vice President for Academic Affairs. Also in attendance were Dr. Yolanda S. Lao, Director of the Center for Community and Social Development (CCSD); Dr. Lucena R. Felipe, Director of the Educational Resource Center (ERC); Ms. Nora V. Clemente, Associate Director of ERC; and representatives and staff members from the Graduate School, CCSD, and the Library.

With the valuable insights shared by our featured speaker, Dr. Juan Jobelle S. Acosta, participants were reminded that librarians are not merely keepers of books but also facilitators of knowledge, partners in education, and innovators in the digital age.

Through initiatives like this, Northwestern University (NWU) continues to share its knowledge, expertise, and technological resources with partner schools, promoting digital innovation and more accessible, efficient, and future-ready library services.

To our fellow librarians, let us continue to learn, adapt, collaborate, and innovate! Every new skill opens opportunities to transform our libraries and classrooms into more engaging, inclusive, and technology-driven learning environments.

The journey toward digital transformation does not end with a seminar—it begins with putting what we learn into practice. Let's keep learning, keep innovating, and keep inspiring!

Happy World Mental Health Day!

Your mental health matters every day. It’s okay to slow down, take a break, ask for help, and admit when you’re not okay. You don’t have to have it all together all the time.

Be kind to yourself and others. Listen without judgment, check on your loved ones, and remember that even a little kindness can make a big difference.

You matter. Your feelings matter. You are never alone.

Earlier today, the Northwestern University (NWU), in partnership with Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), successfully conducted the DOST-HERDIN (Health Research and Development Information Network) Orientation via Zoom.

The session introduced HERDIN, the national health research repository of the Philippines, highlighting its value as a reliable source of Philippine health and medical research that supports academic work, research, evidence-based information needs, and research opportunities.

The activity also marked an important milestone in the NWU–DOST-PCHRD partnership, formalized through the signing of the HERDIN Memorandum of Understanding on June 23, 2026. It emphasized the importance of accessing, sharing, preserving, and increasing the visibility of health research, while encouraging the NWU community to contribute their health-related research outputs to HERDIN.

Through initiatives like this, the NWUERC remains committed to strengthening access to quality research information and empowering the Northwestern University community toward informed and meaningful research.
