CHILD-centered Disaster Risk Reduction is a process of implementing Lapu-Lapu City's Community-Managed DRR program

Children aged from 3 to 7 years old underwent capacity building or training in their own neighborhoods to ensure that they have enough knowledge and skills to prepare, mitigate, respond, and recover from the hazards in their communities

As instructed by Mayor Cindi King Chan, Lapulapu City Rescue (DRRMO) brought the experience to the bridge park

Children were taught how to prevent and respond to the top hazard in their community, fire incidents. They were exposed to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)

The experience will be reinforced by more DRR CA projects and activities during the formal education in elementary and high school under the banner of Lapu-lapu City DRRM program in Education (DRRM-E)

E-Trikes for Pangan.an

Lapulapu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council purchased electric tricycles for the island Barangay of Pangan.an

Under the resilience program, E-Trikes are a sustainable, low-maintenance, and cost-effective alternative to fuel-powered tricycles for a remote island barangay

E-Trikes facilitates responsive governance. Barangay will have transport equipment to collect its garbage and even respond to its emergency needs

ASEAN Summit Cebu 2026 is now a history

To the men and women of Lapulapu City Rescue (DRRMO), your hard work, dedication, and perseverance in all the preparations, especially in the community, have paid off.

We set the pace in hosting plan events.
We did our best. And, we did it well.

To my fellow Oponganon, we have shown and proven to the world that the great, great grandchildren of Datu Lapulapu are gracious hosts.

Securing the city to be gracious host of 48th ASEAN Summit

While others focused on securing the success of ASEAN Summit, Lapulapu City Rescue (DRRMO) remained committed to addressing all emergencies in the city.

90 percent of the resources (ambulance, fire & rescue trucks) of Lapu-lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office continued to provide service to the Oponganon despite the summit.

CHILD Centered Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Program implemented in Lapu-Lapu City

Investing in children's Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) knowledge is a crucial, high-return strategy for building long-term community resilience, as implemented by the Lapu-lapu City Government through the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO)

Though everyone is now busy preparing for the city's hosting of the ASEAN Summit on May 8, DRRMO personnel are still deployed in various communities in the city, teaching children aged 3 - 6 years old about basic first aid, evacuation procedures during fire incidents, earthquake, fire prevention measures, and basic firefighting techniques like bucket relay.

Basic survival knowledge learned in their neighborhood will be reinforced during their elementary education, as the DRR curriculum is integrated into their disaster resilience program.

Children often transfer knowledge to families and communities, increasing overall community preparedness
