staff and volunteers imbued with integrity, equipped with the necessary logistics and the maximum usage of information technology. We will continue to expand our volunteer network in every part of the country to ensure swift delivery of our services. The Organization
Born officially in 1947, but with roots that traces back to the revolutionary days, the Philippine Red Cross has truly become the premier humanitarian organization in the country, committed to provide quality life-saving services that protect the life and dignity especially of indigent Filipinos in vulnerable situations. The story of the Philippine Red Cross is the story of men and women from all walks of life who have dedicated themselves to the service of humanity. It is the tale of hundreds of thousands of ordinary people who devoted their time and resources to help the poorest of the poor. Professionally trained and truly compassionate, these men and women are ready to lend a helping hand to those in need – whoever, whenever and wherever they may be. In all its more than 71 years of reputable existence, the PRC has lived through many changes that were intended to help more people. Where it used to be involved only in providing blood and in disaster-related activities, the PRC now focuses on a holistic approach to uplift the condition of the most vulnerable. Where it used to offer short-term palliatives, it now offers a wider array of humanitarian services ranging from preventive medicine to therapeutic counseling to youth leadership. At present, the PRC provides six major services: National Blood Services, Disaster Management Service, Safety Service, Health Service, Welfare Service and the Red Cross Youth. All of them embody the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. These values guide and inspire all Red Cross staff and volunteers, to whom being a Red Crosser is more than just a philosophy but a way of life. We take pride in urging all Filipinos to take part in the heroism of the Philippine Red Cross by becoming a full-fledged member, volunteer, or donor. In association with other Philippine Red Cross networks, we depend on the many generous contributions in terms of time, in Volunteering in Emergencies, Disasters and financial support for sustainability most especially in lifesaving services and programs. The creation of having a PRC Office in the Island Mactan was crafted in the year 2006 with the City Government of Lapu-Lapu through then City Councilor, then City Vice Mayor and the current BOD Chairman Dr. Mario Y. Amores initiated to have a PRC Chapter in this Island and was started this idea with a circle of his acquaintances as well as representative from the National Headquarters. The Chapter was officially established on January 14, 2008 with Mr. Vic Jay C. Gonzal, MPA as the Pioneer Chapter Administrator. On the First Year, two (2) major milestones were achieved: 1.) Accreditation by the City Government of Lapu-Lapu under SP No.: 602-2008 and 2.) Approval as Full-Fledged Chapter by the PRC National Headquarters through the Board of Governors and Chapter Development Committee approved in October 9, 2008. For the past ten (10) years, the Management and Governance with adequate support from the Volunteers and the entire Community successfully provided compassionate care through capacity building and enhancing humanitarian actors in Disaster Management, Youth and Volunteer Development, Safety Training, Health and Welfare and Relief Management during minor and major cases. Through the Years the Chapter has consistently progress from being a Sub-Chapter to a full-fledge Chapter, Category D, with a total 18 Members of the Board of Directors headed by Dir. Mario Y. Amores, M.D. as the BOD Chairman and Management consisting of 10 Regular Staff headed by the Chapter Administrator Mr. Gonzal, MPA. Complimentary to this is a pool of Volunteers which envisions a more effective and efficient provision of humanitarian services through Celebrating Life in Action and increase participatory approach through organizing Community Red Cross 143 which serves as the eyes, ears, hands and feet of the Chapter in the grass root level. In the short span of 10 years, even in its formative years the Chapter was awarded as BEST CHAPTER OF THE YEAR 2016 - Category D during the 31st PRC National Biennial Convention. And on the following Year, during the 32nd PRC National Biennial Convention held at Manila Hotel, BOD Chairman Dr. Mario Y. Amores, was awarded the AURORA ARAGON QUEZON AWARD one among ten national awardees for having been instrumental in the establishment of the Chapter and for having contributed to its growth. Since then, the Community of PRC of Lapu-Lapu/Cordova continue to exist in further improving and intensifying the Programs and Services of the prestige humanitarian organization in the country. And to be Always First, Always Ready Always There to save lives, alleviate the suffering humanity and protect human dignity. The Seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement
HUMANITY
(We serve people but not systems). The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavors - in its international and national capacity - to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever and whenever it may be found. Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation, and lasting peace among its people. IMPARTIALITY
(We care for everyone without discrimination, but we prioritize the most needy). It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religion, beliefs, class or political opinions. It endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress. NEUTRALITY
(We take initiatives, but never sides). In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature. INDEPENDENCE
(We bow to need, but not to any person). The Movement is independent. National Societies, while auxiliaries in humanitarian service of their governments and subjects to the laws of their respective countries must always maintain autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the Movement. VOLUNTARY SERVICE
(We work around the clock, but never for personal gain). The Movement is a voluntary relief organization not prompted in any manner by desire for gain. UNITY
(There can be only One Red Cross or One Red Crescent Society in any one Country). It must be open to all. It must carry one emblem in its humanitarian work throughout its territory. UNIVERSALITY
(We respect nations, but our work no bounds). The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is a worldwide organization.
