Lapu-Lapu City officially reopened its Art Gallery and Cultural Hub on Monday, June 1, 2026, following months of closure and rehabilitation, transforming the facility into a renewed creative space for Oponganons.

Located in the city's heritage district, the facility now features curated exhibits and multimedia presentations showcasing the history, culture, and artistic heritage of Lapu-Lapu City.

The project is part of the Department of Tourism's (DOT) Heritage Hub Development Program and received one million pesos in funding assistance from the DOT to strengthen cultural tourism and preserve local heritage.

The reopening ceremony was led by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan and Department of Tourism Region 7 Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Gelena Asis-Dimpas, together with city councilors and stakeholders from the tourism and business sectors.

In her message, Mayor Cindi emphasized the Cultural Hub's role as a space that bridges the city's history and future while supporting local artists and creatives.

She noted that the spirit of Datu Lapulapu lives on through the creativity of local weavers, guitar makers, painters, and other artists who embody the city's cultural identity.

"To our local artists, creators, and cultural workers: thank you for keeping our heritage alive. You are the heart and soul of this institution," she said.

The mayor also expressed gratitude to partner agencies, tourism stakeholders, and the Amores family, who donated the lot where the facility stands.

The newly renovated Lapu-Lapu Art Gallery will serve as a platform for local artists to showcase their work and further strengthen cultural tourism in the city.
