BRIEF HISTORY

The birth of the Heart Warriors Philippines group (formerly known as Congenital Heart Disease Philippines) was created on the 23rd day of May, 2011 and eventually changed its name on December 28, 2016 to accommodate all types of patients who suffered from the dreaded heart diseases. It was born from a passion and promised of a parent, Mr. Gener Cabrera, because his child, Kurt Gerald Cabrera, born on May 16, 2009, suffered from Ventricular Septal Disease (VSD).

As CHD is not a known disease at that time, Mr. Cabrera finds it difficult to look for financial assistance whether from NGO’s or from government offices. Information about CHD was sealed from the public. No one shares and no one discloses information on how to avail assistance from various government and non-government agencies. There were no existing Philippine support groups at that time. Because of the pressing problems, one after the other, Mr. Cabrera was already on the verge of giving-up. He also resigned from his job so that he can focus on his son’s health condition, ensuring that he will be taken care of. He could say that his experience was the turning point of his life. When your back is pressed so much against the wall, the best of you will come out.
