From our forests and rivers to the oceans and mountains, every ecosystem is connected and filled with life that supports both people and nature.
Today, biodiversity continues to face threats from climate change, habitat loss, land conversion, pollution, and illegal wildlife trade. Human activities have greatly affected the balance of our ecosystems, making conservation and environmental protection more important than ever.
With this yearโs theme, โ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐น๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐,โ we are reminded that change starts within our own communities. Simple actions such as protecting natural habitats, reducing waste, planting trees, and respecting wildlife can contribute to the protection of biodiversity and the future of our planet.
Let us create visible and meaningful actions towards sustainability and the protection of biodiversity for future generations.๐ฑ๐

The International Day for Biological Diversity is observed every May 22 to promote awareness and understanding of biodiversity and its importance to life on Earth. Originally celebrated in December, the United Nations later moved the observance to May 22 to mark the adoption of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 1992

In celebration of Earth Day last April 22, 2026, the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources successfully carried out a series of meaningful environmental activities aimed at promoting collective responsibility and action for our planet.
The day began with a morning clean-up drive along the Mega Highway, joined by committed Legazpi Boulevard streetsweepers, Environmental Action Officers, other OCENR personnel, and volunteers from Brgy. Puro, Legazpi City. This collective effort worked hand in hand to ensure proper waste collection and disposal for a cleaner and safer environment for the community.
In the afternoon, the initiative continued with an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign, along with inspection and enforcement activities conducted in the vicinity of the Legazpi City Obelisk and the Legazpi Night Market. These efforts aimed to raise awareness, strengthen compliance with environmental regulations, and encourage responsible practices among the public and local vendors.
Every small effort creates a ripple of changeโyour actions truly make a difference, and your voice has the power to inspire others to care, act, and protect our environment.

Last ๐๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ, ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ, as an extension of the Valentineโs Day celebration, hundreds gathered in the spirit of togetherness, hope, and love for the future. During this yearโs celebration, ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฏ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ were replanted at the tree-growing site in ๐ฆ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฑ, ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐พ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป, ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ฎ๐๐ฝ๐ถ ๐๐ถ๐๐. These seedlings were sourced from the city-managed Legazpi City Community Seedling Production Hubs.
The event was led by our ever vibrant Participants included various City Government offices, National Government Agencies (NGAs), civic groups, members of the academe, Uniformed personnel, and community leaders, each united in purpose and commitment to environmental stewardship. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to all volunteer groups and individual participants who proved that true love is rooted in caring for nature.
Beyond planting trees, this replanting activity represents a collective step toward combating the effects of climate change by strengthening the Cityโs carbon sinks, protecting biodiversity, and fostering a community that places the environment at the heart of its actions.
Indeed, love grows stronger when we wait for the right time, and when it is nurtured from the roots to canopy.
