Joining the event were OIC-Regional Director Atty. Nepomuceno A. Leaño II, CPA, OIC-Assistant Regional Director Ching Banania, and DOLE Cam Sur Provincial Head Ella E. Verano, who expressed their support for this meaningful initiative that brought PESO personnel together beyond their regular duties.

OIC-RD Atty. Leaño II emphasized the importance of balancing professional responsibilities with physical well-being.

“This is a significant milestone for Cam Sur as we hold our first learning session and the PESOLYMPICS. As we continuously coordinate in decision-making and fulfill our responsibilities, we must also recognize the importance of strengthening our physical well-being. Through sports, we promote not only health but also teamwork, camaraderie, and sportsmanship,” he said.

More than a celebration of athletic competition, the 1st Camarines Sur PESOLYMPICS 2026 became a celebration of resilience, friendship, teamwork, and unity.

𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗔, 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗕𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 - In line with Secretary Francis Tolentino’s commitment to ensuring safe and healthy working environments for employees, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol, through its Masbate Provincial Office, spearheaded the conduct of a High Impact, High Visibility Inspection and Monitoring (HIHVIM) in the construction industry last August 27, 2026, at B@ms Resto Bar, Lodging House & Catering Services.

A coordination meeting with the participating government agencies and local government unit (LGU) representatives discussed matters relevant to workplace safety, labor standards, social protection, and the effective monitoring of construction activities.

OIC-Regional Director Atty. Nepomuceno A. Leaño II, CPA underscored the importance of a whole-of-government Approach in promoting safe and compliant workplaces, particularly in high-risk industries such as construction.

“Given the nature and potential hazards of construction work, ensuring the safety, health, and welfare of workers is our priority. Where proper safety measures, protective equipment, safe working conditions, and regular monitoring is a must, to prevent accidents, protect workers from occupational hazards, and promote a healthy and secure workplace. This project involves general engineering works, including civil and electrical activities, which require strict compliance with occupational safety and health standards,” OIC-RD Atty. Leaño explained.

Inspection team proceeded to the selected construction site located in Barangay Malinta, Masbate City, which was led by Provincial Head Lynette H. Dela Fuente, Senior Labor and Employment Officer Chito D. Atibagos, Labor and Employment Officer III, Marjorie A. Dejumo, and Labor and Employment Officer III, Engr. Marlon G. Ascutia.

The activity was further strengthened through the participation of representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Social Security System (SSS), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), building officials from the LGUs of Monreal, Placer, Pio V. Corpus, Aroroy, Batuan and Mandaon, as well as the Barangay Administrator of BLGU Malinta.

𝙇𝙀𝙂𝘼𝙕𝙋𝙄 𝘾𝙄𝙏𝙔 — In line with Labor Secretary Francis N. Tolentino’s vision of promoting open dialogue between employers and affected workers to foster amicable resolutions and harmonious workplace relations, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol, through its Sorsogon Provincial Office (SPO), facilitated the payment of ₱2,082,867.67 in separation pay and backpay for 48 workers in Sorsogon Province.

The case originated from a request for assistance from affected workers, including skilled laborers, electricians, and masons, who faced retrenchment as the company sought to prevent further financial losses. Initially, one of the workers brought their collective concerns to the DOLE SPO under the Single Entry Approach (SEnA) program.

Upon receipt of the request, the provincial SEnA Desk Officer (SEADO) immediately facilitated a series of SEnA conferences, which opened an avenue for the workers and management to discuss the circumstances surrounding the retrenchment, arriving at an amicable settlement.

OIC-Regional Director Atty. Nepomuceno A. Leaño II, CPA, emphasized the importance of the program in creating a space for mutual dialogue towards resolution of disputes.

“The successful resolution was made possible through the SEnA process, where the parties engaged in three conferences to discuss the workers’ concerns and work toward a mutually acceptable resolution,” OIC-RD Leaño II said.

DOLE Sorsogon Provincial Head Mary Jane L. Rolda underscored the importance of accessible government mechanisms to guide both workers and employers through difficult employment transitions.

“Retrenchment is never easy, especially for workers who have invested their skills and livelihood in their employment. What is important is that both parties are given an opportunity to communicate, understand each other’s circumstances, and work toward a fair and mutually acceptable resolution,” Rolda said.

Herra D. Habla, SPO SEADO, who facilitated the case, also emphasized the effectiveness of SEnA in bringing parties together to address labor concerns before these escalate into more contentious proceedings.

"The willingness of both parties to participate in the SEnA process, explore solutions openly, and work together toward a settlement was crucial in resolving the workers' concerns," she shared.

One of the 48 affected workers expressed his gratitude for the intervention, sharing that the settlement provides crucial support as they transition to new employment opportunities.

“Hindi po naging madali ang malaman na mawawala ang aming trabaho dahil sa pagbawas ng mga proyekto. Nagpapasalamat kami na nabigyan kami ng pagkakataong maiparating ang aming mga isyu sa trabaho at magkaroon ng maayos na pag-uusap kasama ang kumpanya. Malaking bagay po ang separation pay at backpay na natanggap namin habang naghahanap kami ng panibagong trabaho. Ang laking tulong po ng DOLE.”
