Philippine, Malaysian armies hold joint defense exercise  The Army’s 10th Infantry Division and a group of soldiers from Malaysia launched in Mawab town in Davao de Oro on Monday, June 1, a 12-day joint territorial defense planning exercise, meant to boost the security preparedness of both sides under Asian settings.

In a recent media interview, Philippine Coast Guard Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐚𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐚, highlighted the 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧, particularly those operating in waters near West Philippine Sea. These fishermen, whose livelihoods depend on access to traditional fishing grounds, continue to face challenges brought about by tensions in the maritime areas.

He emphasized that the situation in the West Philippine Sea is not only about territorial concerns or diplomacy—it is also about the daily lives of ordinary Filipinos.

Highlighting the unique position of the Philippines as a convergence hub for cooperation in preserving the rules-based order, especially in the maritime domain, Secretary of National Defense Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. introduced the vision of the country as an Archipelagic Sentinel and a Guardian of the Freedom of the Seas at the 23rd IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.
