Malugod na binabati ng MDRRMO Libon si G. John Reymark B. Refereza ng Brgy. Bulusan, Libon, Albay sa kanyang pagtatapos sa kursong BS Physics sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Baguio!

Isinagawa ni John Reymark ang kanyang undergraduate research sa Libon na pinamagatang “Flood Risk Prediction and Early Warning Using LSTM Networks Augmented with TimeGAN-Generated Synthetic Data for Improved Community Response in Libon, Albay.”

Nakatuon ang pag-aaral na ito sa paggamit ng artificial intelligence (AI) upang makatulong na magkaroon ng flood early warning system ang Libon. Gumamit ito ng Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), isang AI model na nagsusuri ng mga datos tulad ng dami ng ulan at antas ng tubig sa paglipas ng panahon, at TimeGAN, isang teknolohiyang lumilikha ng karagdagang synthetic data upang matugunan ang kakulangan ng historical flood records na maaaring gamiting datos.

Sa pamamagitan ng pagsasama ng dalawang teknolohiyang ito, layunin ng pag-aaral na matulungan ang LGU at mga barangay na makapagbigay ng mas maagang babala, makapaghanda nang mas mabuti, at mabawasan ang panganib sa buhay, kabuhayan, at ari-arian ng mga Libongueños tuwing may pagbaha.

Si John Reymark ay sumailalim sa UPCAT Review (Affirmative Action Program) ng LGU Libon noong 2019 at naging isa sa mga iskolar ng LGU Libon sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Baguio.

Pagkatapos ng kanilang pag-aaral sa UP, ang mga iskolar ay bumabalik sa LGU Libon para sa kanilang return service sa opisina kung saan maaari nilang maibahagi ang kanilang mga natutunan sa unibersidad at higit pang mapaunlad ang kanilang mga kakayahan habang nagsisilbi sa bayan.

LIGTAS-AGAD | Representatives from the University of the Philippines Los Baños - School of Environmental Science and Management (UPLB-SESAM) paid a courtesy call on Municipal Mayor Atty. Markgregor Edward C. Sayson on June 15, 2026, at the Office of the Mayor in connection with the implementation of the action research program, "Landslide Investigations for Geohazards Preparedness and Timely Advisories in the Philippines: Advanced Geospatial Approaches for DRRM (LIGTAS-AGAD)."

During the meeting, the research team formally sought the support and permission of the Local Government Unit of Libon to conduct landslide-related data collection activities within the municipality. These include the inventory and assessment of recent landslide events, as well as the conduct of Training Needs Assessment (TNA) surveys among households situated in landslide-affected communities.

The LIGTAS-AGAD project aims to enhance geohazard preparedness and strengthen disaster risk reduction and management initiatives through the application of advanced geospatial technologies, evidence-based research, and community engagement. The gathered information will contribute to the development of more effective risk assessment tools, preparedness strategies, and timely advisories for vulnerable communities.

The Local Government Unit of Libon welcomes initiatives that promote science-based approaches to disaster resilience and reaffirms its commitment to supporting programs that enhance the safety, preparedness, and well-being of Libongueños, particularly those residing in hazard-prone areas.

SCHOOL CONTINGENCY PLANNING | Recognizing the vulnerability of Barangay Burabod to landslides and flooding during typhoons, a School Contingency Planning Activity was conducted on June 11, 2026, at Burabod Elementary School through the joint efforts of the school administration, the Barangay Council of Burabod, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Libon.

The activity focused on reviewing and enhancing the school's preparedness measures, emergency response procedures, evacuation protocols, and coordination mechanisms to ensure the safety and protection of learners, teachers, and the surrounding community during disaster events.

As schools often serve as vital centers of safety and coordination during emergencies, the development of a comprehensive contingency plan remains essential in minimizing risks and strengthening community resilience.

The initiative reflects the continuing commitment of local stakeholders to promote disaster preparedness and ensure that the school and community are better equipped to respond to the challenges posed by natural hazards.

ANO ANG AFTERSHOCK?
Ang aftershock ay mga kasunod na pagyanig na nagaganap matapos ang isang malakas na lindol o *mainshock*. Kadalasan, ang mga ito ay mas mahina kaysa sa naunang malakas at mapaminsalang lindol.
Ang ilan sa mga aftershock ay maaaring may sapat na lakas upang maramdaman at maaari pang magdulot ng karagdagang pinsala sa mga estrukturang humina o nasira na ng mainshock. Maaaring maranasan ang mga ito sa loob ng ilang araw, linggo, o maging buwan matapos ang pangunahing lindol.
Sa pangkalahatan, habang mas malakas ang mainshock, mas marami ang inaasahang aftershocks at mas matagal ang panahong maaaring maranasan ang mga ito.
Kasunod ng M7.8 na lindol sa offshore Sarangani, inaasahan ang mga aftershock. Pinapayuhan ang publiko na umiwas muna sa mga gusali at iba pang estrukturang maaaring napinsala ng lindol dahil maaari itong lalong humina o gumuho kapag niyanig ng mga susunod na aftershock.
