In celebration of ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐๐, we proudly feature ๐๐ซ. ๐๐จ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ง ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐ข โ a distinguished Filipino artist, ethnographer, archaeologist, educator, and cultural advocate dedicated to preserving and promoting Kapampangan heritage.
Known artistically as Mรกl-a-รrรญ or โPrecious Sun,โ Mallariโs contributions span visual arts, archaeology, literature, historical research, and cultural preservation. Formerly serving as a research officer and archaeologist at the Center for Kapampangan Studies until 2012, he now serves as Education Program SupervisorโLRMDS of DepEd City of San Fernando, Pampanga, Museum Consultant of the Diosdado P. Macapagal Museum at Pampanga State University, and President of ANASI (Academia ning Amanung Sisuan Internacional) ANASI (Academia ning Amanung Sisuan Internacional).
He also holds key leadership roles in various cultural and heritage organizations, including Board of Directors Member of KATATAGAN Inc. (2007โpresent), President of ANASI (2019โpresent), BOD Member of Crissot Heritage Foundation, Inc. (2025โpresent), and Vice Head of the National Commission for Culture and the ArtsโCNCC Luzon, as well as Chair of the NCCA SCCTA KapampanganโSambalโTagalog Cluster (2016โpresent).
Recognized with numerous honors such as the 2025 Most Outstanding Kapampangan Award (MOKA) Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards 2025, The Outstanding Fernandino Award (TOFA) The Outstanding Fernandino Award 2025, 2026 Kadake king Dangal โ Pupul ning Banua Award Kadake king Dangal Awards 2026, SP Commendations from both City of San Fernando and Angeles City Sangguniang Panlungsod (2025โ2026), as well as earlier distinctions including the Gawad Pagpapahalaga by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the 2013 Book Author Winner โ Kawatasan: Obrang Poeta Laureado, Mallari continues to inspire communities through his unwavering dedication to Filipino artistry, education, history, and cultural legacy.

With profound sorrow, the Office of Library Services and Museum extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, friends, and the entire Library and Information Science community on the passing of Dr. Juan C. Buenrostro Jr.โa distinguished Filipino educator, author, and one of the pillars of modern Philippine librarianship.
Recognized as the 2022 Outstanding Professional Librarian of the Year by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), Dr. Buenrostro dedicated his life to advancing the field of Library and Information Science and inspiring generations of librarians and information professionals through his leadership, wisdom, and service.
His invaluable contributions to education and librarianship will continue to leave a lasting legacy in the hearts and minds of many. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find strength and comfort during this time of grief. ๐๏ธ

In celebration of ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐๐, we proudly feature the ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐๐จ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ โ remarkable 19th-century colonial communication towers that stand as enduring symbols of history, innovation, and resilience in Pampanga.
Built in 1898 under the supervision of the Spanish Engineering Corps and later utilized during the Philippine Revolution, these historic towers once served as relay stations for transmitting optical signals through heliographs and Morse code across distant towns. Today, the surviving towers in Barangays Sta. Cruz and San Isidro continue to remind us of Magalangโs important role in Philippine history.
Recognized in 2017 by the National Museum of the Philippines and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) as Important Cultural Properties, the Torre Heliografico remains a proud testament to the rich historical and cultural identity of the Kapampangan people.

As the resident historian of Magalang and author of The Magalang Book: The Historical Life and Culture of a Kapampangan Town (1605โ2015) published by the NCCA, his invaluable contributions through historical research and the Amlat Magaleรฑo platform serve as living bridges connecting the past, present, and future of the Kapampangan people.
Through his passion for education and cultural preservation, Mr. Bartolo reminds us that our stories, traditions, and heritage are treasures worth protecting and sharing.
