Magdalena LGU, education officials strengthen partnership to ensure safety, learning continuity
The partnership between the Magdalena Sub-office and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Magdalena remains stronger than ever as local officials, education leaders, law enforcement authorities, and stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to keeping schools safe while ensuring that learning continues uninterrupted, July 27.
This assurance was emphasized during an urgent meeting held Monday at the Magdalena Municipal Hall following recent security concerns involving schools in the municipality.
Attending the meeting were Mayor Dario A. Lapada, Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) Dr. Nemeflor M. Gumabao (Agipo Mabandos Gumobao), representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP), School Heads, the Rural Health Office, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, and parents' representatives led by SPTA President Wilfredo Simat.
Dr. Gumabao underscored the strong collaboration between schools and the local government, stressing that the recent threats are being taken seriously but should not disrupt the education of learners.
"The partnership of our schools and the local government is stronger than ever. While threats are never disregarded, our response is to strengthen security measures and ensure the safety of our learners rather than suspend classes immediately," Gumabao said.
Mayor Lapada echoed this commitment, emphasizing that education and safety must go hand in hand.
"Education is as important as safety. We will do everything necessary to ensure that our learners are protected while continuing their studies," the mayor said.
As part of the municipality's strengthened security efforts, Mayor Lapada pledged additional resources to schools across Magdalena, including the provision of metal detectors for all schools, installation and maintenance of fully functioning CCTV cameras, and enhanced police visibility and patrol operations around educational institutions.
Meanwhile, Magdalena Police Chief PCPT Michael Gabriel Maraggun assured stakeholders that the police force continues to conduct regular patrols in and around schools throughout the municipality. He also provided updates on the ongoing investigation related to the reported threat, emphasizing the close coordination between law enforcement, school officials, and local government authorities.
For his part, Dr. Mel Anthony P. Liboon, Principal II, reported that the threat made against Magdalena Integrated National High School last Friday was determined to be a hoax after investigation and validation by authorities.
"Student safety was successfully assured through the coordinated efforts of the school, the Philippine National Police, and the local government," Liboon said, expressing gratitude to all agencies that responded swiftly to the situation.
Parents also had the opportunity to voice their concerns during the meeting. SPTA President Wilfredo Simat welcomed the proactive measures being implemented and emphasized the importance of continuous coordination between families, schools, and government agencies.
The meeting concluded with a unified message from all stakeholders: Magdalena's schools remain safe, lessons will continue, and the strong partnership between the Magdalena Sub-office, the LGU, the PNP, and the community will remain at the forefront of efforts to protect learners while maintaining uninterrupted education.
The collaborative response, officials said, demonstrates the community's shared commitment to ensuring that every learner in Magdalena can study in a safe, secure, and supportive environment.
