𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝; 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭.

Once upon a time, we gathered not just to open books, but to open our hearts. In a world where everyone is fighting battles we may never see, we created a safe space where stories became a gentle reminder that it is okay to pause, to feel, to heal, and to begin again.

Through our successful Bibliotherapy Session, facilitated by Ms. Jelyn S. Sarong, we discovered that sometimes, the most meaningful stories are not found between the pages of a book, but in the lives of the people sitting right beside us.

As we listened to our students, we were given a glimpse of the struggles they silently carry—the sacrifices they make, the challenges they face, and the countless moments of uncertainty they endure just to pursue their education. Behind every student is a story of courage, perseverance, and dreams they refuse to give up on, even when life gets difficult.

Their stories reminded us that education is not always an easy journey. For some, showing up to class means overcoming personal struggles; for others, continuing to study means choosing hope despite exhaustion, financial difficulties, and life's unexpected challenges. And sometimes, all a person needs is someone willing to listen, a heart willing to understand, and a little reminder that their struggles do not define their worth.

Through this session, we learned that healing begins not only when we share our own stories, but also when we make room for others to tell theirs. Every reflection became an opportunity to understand, every shared experience a lesson in empathy, and every moment of listening a reminder that our students are more than their academic performance—they are human beings navigating life while holding on to their dreams.

At the Magsaysay College Learning Resource Center, we believe that books are more than sources of knowledge. They can be companions in difficult times, bridges toward self-understanding, and gentle reminders that even in our darkest chapters, hope is still within reach.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Jelyn S. Sarong for facilitating this meaningful session, and to everyone who opened their hearts and made this experience truly special. Because sometimes, healing begins with a story, comfort comes through a word, and hope is found between the pages of a book. And sometimes, the greatest thing we can offer someone is not advice, but a listening ear and a heart that understands.

May we continue to read not only to learn, but also to understand, to listen, to heal, and to remind every student that no matter how difficult the journey becomes, their dreams are still worth pursuing.

Magsaysay College commemorated the 92nd National Book Week with a day-long celebration centered on the power of reading, creativity, and emotional wellness.

The event was attended by Dr. Quilin Veen L. Babaylan, Interim College President, who delivered the keynote message. He emphasized the vital role of reading in student growth and learning.

"Every student needs to read to learn because ideas don’t mature. You cannot share what you cannot retain," Dr. Babaylan said.

He also discussed the cycle of Response, Craving, Reward, and Habit, encouraging students to build positive reading habits by making “craving not satisfying” until they develop discipline and love for books.

The program was officially opened by Ms. Nadinne Jean Cañada. The morning session featured student-centered competitions that showcased literary talent and creativity. This included the Storytelling Contest and the Tagline Making Contest, where participants expressed their passion for reading through performance and words.

In the afternoon, the celebration continued with a Bibliotherapy Session led by Ms. Jelyn S. Sarong, Vice President for Academic Affairs. During the session, students were given a safe space to share their thoughts and emotions, using literature as a tool for reflection, healing, and self-expression.
College officials said the activities aimed to promote a stronger reading culture, boost student engagement with literature, and support the mental and emotional well-being of learners in line with this year’s National Book Week theme.

The 92nd National Book Week is celebrated nationwide every November to highlight the importance of books, libraries, and reading in nation-building.
