PASAY CITY โ€” The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its E-Commerce Bureau (DTI-ECB), in partnership with the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), Meta Philippines, and Bayan Academy, held the E-Commerce Business Talks on 23 May 2026 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila during IFEX Philippines 2026.

The discussion focused on strengthening the digital readiness of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the food sector, with emphasis on expanding market access, improving competitiveness, and increasing participation in online trade.

DTI-ECB Director Atty. Eryl Royce R. Nagtalon highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the countryโ€™s e-commerce ecosystem and promote a safer and more reliable digital marketplace for businesses and consumers. Assistant Division Chief Herminio R. Viterbo Jr. of the Business Information Division highlighted initiatives such as the E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark, which is designed to help MSMEs align with established digital trade standards and reinforce buyer confidence.

Meta Philippines Certified Lead Boost Trainer Frances Cruz presented strategies to strengthen online presence, including content development, brand building, performance marketing, and the effective use of commerce messaging tools to drive customer engagement and sales growth.

DTI-ECB Assistant Director Perpetua Werlina R. Lim said sustained collaboration between government and industry remains essential in accelerating digital adoption and preparing MSMEs for broader participation in e-commerce.

CITEM underscored the importance of continued public and private sector cooperation in building a trusted digital environment that enables MSMEs to grow beyond traditional markets. This aligns with DTI-ECBโ€™s commitment to advancing an inclusive and competitive digital economy through capacity-building initiatives and strategic partnerships that strengthen MSME capabilities and expand participation in both domestic and global markets.

๐ˆ๐‚๐˜๐Œ๐ˆ | The DTI E-Commerce Bureau (DTI ECB) joined another leg of the "Enhancing Women MSME Export Readiness under RCEP Trade Mechanisms" series on 19 May 2026, with Berlin Mabuna representing the bureau at Citadines Bay City Manila, Pasay City.

DC Mabuna walked participants through how the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Internet Transactions Act of 2023 (RA 11967) connect in ways that matter for small businesses selling online. Through RA 11967, it can help Filipino online sellers access the 15 RCEP Participating Countries (RPCs) with the kind of credibility that makes buyers feel secure doing business with them.

The discussion also touched on the practical strategies, emphasizing how digital platforms are already opening a realistic path for women-led MSMEs to enter cross-border commerce without the heavy logistical burdens traditionally associated with exporting.

The event was organized by the DTI Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) in collaboration with Regional Trade for Development (RT4D).

๐ˆ๐‚๐˜๐Œ๐ˆ | The Department of Trade and Industry - E-Commerce Bureau (DTI ECB) teamed up with the University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI) on 15 May 2026 to run a series of learning sessions for small business owners taking part in the 8th MSME BUYanihan sa Diliman Bazaar 2026.

Held under the "Digital Diskarte" Information Session Series, the discussions brought together speakers from DTI ECB, Meta, and PLDT-Smart Enterprise to cover the practical side of running a business online โ€” from content strategies and platform tools to the legal framework shaping Philippine e-commerce today.

DTI ECB Policy and Promotion Division Chief Berlin Mabuna walked participants through the Internet Transactions Act of 2023 (RA 11967), focusing on what the law means for small business owners in concrete terms โ€” how it helps build consumer trust, what it requires of online sellers, and how MSMEs can use its provisions to grow their digital presence on solid ground.

The bazaar, which ran from 14-16 May 2026 at UP Diliman, drew entrepreneurs from various sectors and served as a fitting venue for the kind of on-the-ground digital learning that DTI ECB has been bringing closer to where MSMEs actually are.

๐ˆ๐‚๐˜๐Œ๐ˆ | The DTI E-Commerce Bureau (DTI ECB) joined the "Enhancing Women MSME Export Readiness under RCEP Trade Mechanisms" workshop on 12 May 2026 in Davao City, sharing with participants how digitalization can open more doors for women-led small businesses looking to export.

Organized by the DTI Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) with Regional Trade for Development (RT4D), the workshop brought together women-owned and women-led MSMEs exploring how to take advantage of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership โ€” the free trade agreement covering 15 Asia-Pacific economies.

DTI ECB Policy and Promotion Division Chief Berlin V. Mabuna served as resource speaker, discussing the Internet Transactions Act of 2023 (RA 11967) and the bureau's various digitalization programs, including skills development initiatives that give entrepreneurs and their teams access to training in e-commerce, and other competencies relevant to online trade.

The session recognized both the challenges women entrepreneurs face in the digital space and the real opportunities available to those who are ready to take them on.

This engagement is part of the Bureau's broader effort to bring digital trade conversations and the programs that support them โ€” closer to MSMEs across the country.
