The DTI-CARP celebrates a remarkable milestone for one of its supported ARB Organization as the Tiblac Farmers Agriculture Cooperative from Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya claimed the top position in the Robusta Category of the 2nd North Luzon Coffee Quality Competition (NLCQC). The culmination and awarding ceremony was held on May 21, 2026, at The Orchard Hotel in Baguio City.
The winning coffee bean entry, sourced from the farm of Ms. Joan Dulagan, a member of the Tiblac Farmers Agriculture Cooperative, achieved a cupping score of 85.06, tying with an entry from Tabuk City, Kalinga, to earn the Top 1 ranking in the Robusta Category. This recognition underscores the exceptional quality of coffee produced by ARBs in Nueva Vizcaya and affirms the capacity of ARB Organizations to compete at a regional level against established coffee-producing communities.
The championship entry impressed the panel of certified Q graders with a diverse and rich flavor profile, featuring notes of almond, banana, brown sugar, cherry, dark chocolate, dried fruit, fruit wine, jackfruit, mango, mixed berries, peach, pineapple, smooth, tangerine, and tropical fruit. All entries were evaluated in strict adherence to the standards and protocols of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), ensuring that the assessment process met internationally recognized benchmarks for coffee quality.
Beyond the championship entry, three (3) additional Robusta submissions from the Tiblac Farmers Agriculture Cooperative in Ambaguio were awarded a green grade of Fine Robusta with zero defects, further demonstrating the consistently high caliber of the cooperative's coffee production.
The awarding ceremony honored the top 10 coffee entries across the Robusta and Arabica categories, with winners receiving certificates of recognition and special prizes. In addition, the winners were granted the opportunity to auction their coffee lots through an online platform developed by the Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP), accessible to registered bidders from across the country.
The DTI-CARP recognizes this achievement as a testament to the potential of ARBs when provided with the proper training, technical assistance, and market linkage support. The victory of the Tiblac Farmers Agriculture Cooperative reflects the broader mission of the DTI-CARP to empower ARB Organizations and elevate their enterprises to competitive and sustainable levels.
The 2nd North Luzon Coffee Quality Competition was organized by the DA-PRDP North Luzon in partnership with Regional Project Coordination Offices, DTI, Benguet State University, and the Barista and Coffee Academy of Asia.
