The Hernandez Library

The Hernandez Library reached out to Albay, and delivered boxes upon boxes of books to three beneficiaries in the area.

First was St. John the Baptist Church, one of the oldest in the region. Their church library was grateful to receive books related to their ministry. (Many thanks to a special donor who sent their family library to us in recent weeks. Yes po, this is where your Catholic books went).

Second, we delivered to San Jose Technical College 5 Boxes of books for their students. Pia was surprised to see that the college lacked classrooms and chairs, that students sometimes bring their own chairs to class or listen to lectures in the basketball court. The college doesn't collect tuition, and though it receives public funding, most of that is sufficient for salaries of their instructors with a little towards school operations. They need classrooms. Atty. Randy Blanza also mentioned that they need more books, bookshelves, printers and computers but their urgent need is the Arm Chair.

Third, we reached San Jose National High School, and Pia was even more shocked at what she saw. Several years ago, the roof of the library in San Jose High School in Albay, Bicol, collapsed during a typhoon. They've been unable to repair it ever since. In 2027, we want to repair that. The donated books were deposited with the principal Mr. Buen Owogowog for the meantime, but we will be back to help. And we'll bring friends. :)

The Dumagat Tribe of Norzagaray Bulacan needs help. 🌻🌻🌻 Tina knew them long before the pandemic, when Rescue Team 926 brought CPR training to the tribe. Tina returned with the UP Cadet Alumni Organization back then - to try and help through livelihood training and delivery of rice. 😘😁

This year, Tina remembered them and reached out to Bro. Martin Francisco, the missionary helping the tribe for so many years now. With the help of his volunteers in Bulacan, two boxes of books were delivered to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. From our team of volunteers (Jon, Marielle, and Pia) to theirs, books to help promote literacy and livelihood for the tribe. Many thanks again to the Philippine Army Security and Es**rt Battalion for help with transport and heavy lifting. :) 🌻🥹😁





The Dumagat need more help in the future - medical mission and nutrition first and foremost. We are looking for organizations that can help teach vegetable gardening and other nutrition and water purification skills to the Dumagat. Let us know if your organization can help! 🌻🌻🌻

Tibig Elementary School requested help for their Reading Corner, and the Hernandez Library sent help last September 11, 2026. 😚😁🌻 With help from the Philippine Army Security and Es**rt Battalion, some boxes of books were happily delivered and received by the school. 🫡 Many thanks again to our donors and the Philippine Army. This wouldn't be possible without your kind help. 😘🐼🌻

We want to thank Vanguard Inc for donating what seemed like a bottomless box full of jeans. It was 37 pieces of maong for schoolbags and many childrens books too. Many thanks for donating for the kids in Sulu. :) Magsukul! Salamat po!

🌻🌻The Hernandez Institute X MIKA San Pedro🌻🌻

Similar advocacies brought the Hernandez Library / Hernandez Institute and MIKA San Pedro together earlier this year. 🥹 It was livelihood for women, through Harl's Handcrafted Leather goods in San Pedro Laguna, where Tina Hernandez first taught bookbinding to the women of MIKA, so they could transform their water lily paper into a finished hand bound scrapbook. 😀Around the same time, we were looking for ways to complete the denim bags as well - MIKA had a sewing workshop already! 😎It was easy to arrange - the Hernandez Library collects the materials, MIKA moms sew the schoolbags, partner organizations help us fill each bag with school supplies and a kids raincoat, and the AFP will help us deliver it to the beneficiary schools across Sulu. :)

As ROTC taught Tina so long ago - "I am only one, but I am one." And maybe, each one of us, working together in bayanihan spirit, is sufficient to make a difference across the Philippines, helping empower kids and their communities through better access to education. 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

We are collecting denim donations at Luntian at P**a! 19 September 2026 at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City. Come by and drop off your donations at our booth this Saturday and check out some of the finished bags we will send to Sulu.

We are accepting: denim clothes, buttons, kids size raincoats, and school supplies. Hope to see y'all there!

We brought two boxes of books and one box of requested art supplies to the Aeta community of Putingkahoy, Rosario, Batangas and found they need so much more. 🌻 Roughly 100 kids in their community - and of the youth only 5 in college at this time. 🥹 We want to support them with a stipend so they can afford the jeepney fare to attend their classes, but that needs donors to set up and our small team can't process funds or cash donations yet. 🥹

But in kind donations they need are as follows:
☑️Plastic tables, 2 or more.
☑️Chairs, 60 more (even plastic stools so the kids can all sit in their assembly area)
☑️Solar lighting for inside and outside their library
☑️Bookshelves
☑️And more school supplies for the whole community.

Lets help these kids excel in their studies, so they can help their communities improve. 😀🐼🌻
