Over a hundred Virlanie beneficiaries, children and youth, with their families, under Virlanie’s Community Program lost their houses and all belongings in the fire that struck Parola Compound last Saturday, May 23.

The Virlanie coordination office in Parola which we are renting was also razed to the ground.

We are appealing for cash donations to help the children and their families recover from this tragedy.

Please read below for more details.

Happy Mother’s Day! 💝🌻

Today, we celebrate another Virlanie mother from the community program who continues to grow not only for her family, but alongside her fellow mothers. Puralyn Hora, called “Pura” by friends and family, is a loving mother of three, a Virlanie community leader, and an empowered woman.

After the pandemic, Hora was invited by a friend to join Virlanie’s Family Strengthening (FS) sessions. “Marami akong bagay na pinagbago sa sarili. Bilang isang ina kasi masyado akong mahigpit,” she shared. Pura reflected on how she used to believe that being a good mother meant always being in control. “Dati gusto ko ako nasusunod. Masyado akong agresibong ina. Pero dahil sa FS sessions, napagtanto ko yung importance ng boundary sa pagiging mahigpit. Dapat hinahayaan ko rin mga anak kong mag-explore at matutong mag-decide sa sarili nila.”

Today, Pura is one of the active leaders among the mothers in Virlanie’s Community Program in Parola, Tondo. Together, they manage livelihood efforts by selling mainly handmade rags and perfumes.

What makes Pura happiest is seeing the sincerity and dedication of her fellow mothers as they continue learning together and working toward a better future for their families. “Iba iba man kami ng ugali, pero pareho kami sa isang bagay; kung paano kami mag-iimprove hindi lang para yumaman pero para umunlad bilang mga tao.”

Today we are celebrating the love, strength, and wisdom of moms and mother figures everywhere. Happy Mother’s Day! 🥰✨

Happy Mother’s Day! 💐💌

We honor all mothers every day of the year but today they get extra recognition.

We want to highlight our Virlanie mothers like 37 year old Uzziela “Uzziel” Desucatan from the Parola Community Program, a mother whose determination helped turn one of her family’s biggest dreams into reality: finally having a home of their own.

For eight years, Uzziel and her family lived in a rented home. Like many mothers, she carried the daily worries of budgeting, saving, and making sure her family could get by. But in 2023, when she first joined Virlanie’s Family Strengthening (FS) sessions, Uzziel found more than just a program that would help her become a better wife and mother. She also found a community that helped her grow as a woman and a leader.

Alongside fellow mothers in the community, Uzziel participated in livelihood efforts – producing and selling mainly handmade rags and perfumes. Through this, she learned how to create, manage, and market products together with her fellow mothers from the community.

“Hindi porket nasa bahay tayo wala na tayong pwedeng magawa.” Through budgeting, saving, and the additional income from their livelihood efforts, Uzziel and her husband were eventually able to achieve something they once only dreamed about. “Through Virlanie po, natuto po kaming magtipid, mag-budget ng pera, mag-ipon. After 8 years po nagkaroon po kami ng sariling bahay.”

Today, Uzziel serves in their community’s Educational Committee while continuing to work alongside fellow mothers in their livelihood program. More than the livelihood itself, she treasures the support system they built together, with women who continue to encourage, uplift, and inspire one another every day.“Bilang lider hindi ka dapat ‘bababa’ sa mga kasama mo, instead dapat itataas mo sila para pare-pareho kayong makakaangat.”

Virlanie Foundation wishes a joyful weekend to all the amazing mothers and mother figures just like Uzziel! 🤗🙏
