Did you know that La Trinidad generates around 40 tons of purely vegetable waste per day from its trading post alone? (That excludes the waste generated by the people of the municipality.) Though it's now considered garbage, why not use it as a key resource to solve a problem? A lot of farmers are suffering great losses due to spoilage and market price fluctuations. A cold storage might be an obvious solution, but the high cost of operating such facility often hinders the farmers from using one. (Refrigerators consume a lot of electricity, and we have one of the most expensive electricity!) At CleverHeat, we want to help the farmers preserve their harvest with little expenses by using our non-electric heat-powered cold storage. As we need heat for operation, we can extract biogas from these "garbages" (with help of Sir Celso Espaldon) and use it to drive our heat-powered cold storage. We increase the productivity of the farmers as we address the waste problem of the area.

This project is in partnership with UP Los Banos and Benguet State University, funded by USAID STRIDE.
