Fernando Amorsolo is also known as the "Grand Old Man of Philippine Art," celebrated for his luminous masterpieces that captured the rural life, Filipino traditions, and everyday moments of the Filipino People. Through iconic works such as Planting Rice, The Making of the Philippine Flag, and his sunlit countryside scenes, he helped elevate Philippine visual arts both locally and internationally. His works played a vital role in strengthening the Philippine creative industries by inspiring generations of artists, promoting Filipino visual storytelling, and showcasing the richness of Filipino culture to the world.

As we remember his legacy, we honor the enduring impact of art in strengthening national identity and empowering the future of Filipino creatives. Fernando Amorsolo's legacy continues to remind us of the power of creativity in preserving culture, telling stories, and shaping national identity.

Malikhaing Kaarawan, Ar. Juan F. Nakpil!

Today, we celebrate the birth and enduring legacy of Juan F. Nakpil — a pioneer whose works helped shape the identity of Philippine architecture.

Recognized as the first National Artist for Architecture, Nakpil championed a uniquely Filipino architectural style by blending classical design with local culture and craftsmanship. His works not only transformed the country’s urban landscape but also contributed to the growth of the Philippine creative industries through architecture, design, and cultural preservation.

Among his notable works are the restored Quiapo Church, the Philippine Village Hotel, the Rizal Shrine in Calamba, and the UP Administration and University Library buildings. These structures continue to stand as symbols of Filipino ingenuity, heritage, and innovation.

Through his vision, Nakpil proved that architecture is more than building spaces — it is about shaping culture, preserving identity, and inspiring future generations of Filipino creatives.
