On 27 April 2026, the Philippine Commission on Sports SCUBA Diving (PCSSD), led by Executive Director Marco Angelo J. Ancheta, convened a follow-through meeting with Scuba Schools International (SSI) Philippines, represented by Mr. Chung Kai Teoh (Business Development Manager) and Mr. Gordz Gojunco and Mr. Chris Seok Lee (Training Managers), to further advance the formalization of a strategic partnership through a proposed framework agreement.
Building on initial discussions held last year, the meeting outlined key directions for the industry, including the establishment of mandatory incident reporting and data-sharing mechanisms; alignment of training and operational standards; updating of rules and regulations governing SCUBA diving; development of national standards for freediving and hyperbaric systems; enhancement of medical preparedness; and integration of environmental stewardship across dive operations, in line with Quality, Health & Safety, and Environment (QHSE) principles.
PCSSD emphasized its strengthened regulatory mandate under Republic Act No. 9593, including the expectation for all dive certifying agencies operating in the Philippines to enter into formal agreements for government recognition and regulatory oversight.
Both parties agreed to pursue collaborative workstreams on incident reporting systems, data governance, standards development, and capacity-building programs, with coordination extending to accreditation pathways in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and other relevant institutions.
This initiative marks a significant step toward a unified, transparent, and standards-driven diving industry, with PCSSD continuing to engage other internationally recognized certifying bodies toward full alignment with national regulations.
