Mayor Salway โJunโ Sumbo, Jr. called for stronger inter-agency and multi-sectoral cooperation in strengthening public safety, peace and order, and security in the Municipality of Malapatan during the 3rd Quarter Joint Meeting of the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) and Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) on Tuesday, September 29.
The joint council meeting served as a venue for the different sectors, government offices, law enforcement and security agencies, barangay representatives, and other stakeholders represented in the MADAC and MPOC to discuss current peace and order, public safety, and anti-drug concerns, and to identify coordinated measures to further protect the people and communities of Malapatan.
With recent incidents involving fi****ms being brought into schools and shooting incidents in other areas involving students, Mayor Sumbo, Jr. directed the concerned agencies to intensify the intelligence network and strengthen the visibility of uniformed personnel in schools throughout Malapatan.
Mayor Sumbo, Jr. also emphasized that the safety of learners, teachers, and school personnel must be a shared responsibility. He called for the full cooperation of the 12 barangays where schools are situated, together with school authorities, law enforcement units, and other concerned agencies, to ensure closer coordination, information-sharing, monitoring, and immediate response to possible security threats.
He likewise directed the strengthening of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities in schools and communities, particularly on school safety, responsible fi***rm ownership, prevention of violence, and the importance of immediately reporting information that may pose a threat to public safety.
In addition, Mayor Sumbo, Jr. reiterated the municipalityโs firm and continuing commitment to the fight against illegal drugs. He called on the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police (PNP), and other concerned government agencies to further strengthen intelligence gathering, enforcement operations, prevention efforts, and the apprehension of individuals identified to be involved in the illegal drug trade, in accordance with law and established procedures.
He stressed that maintaining peace and order requires the collective effort of the entire community and the cooperation of different sectors. Through the MADAC and MPOC, the local government continues to bring together concerned stakeholders to strengthen coordination, information-sharing, and unified action in addressing issues that affect the safety and security of the people.
Adding to the municipalityโs peace and security efforts, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reaffirmed that the Municipality of Malapatan maintains its insurgency-free status, reflecting the continuing cooperation and collective efforts of the local government, security forces, barangays, and the community in sustaining peace and stability.
Mayor Sumbo, Jr. emphasized that the goal remains clear: to maintain a peaceful, secure, and drug-free Malapatan where children can go to school safely, families can live without fear, and every community can continue to progress.
The Local Government Unit of Malapatan remains committed to working hand-in-hand with the different sectors, government agencies, barangays, schools, security forces, and the people of Malapatan in building a safer, more peaceful, and more secure community for all. (Malapatan Information Office)
