PRESS RELEASE | SOJ Vida orders implementation of 4-day on-site workweek for DOJ; frontline services remain open five days
Justice Secretary Fredderick A. Vida has directed the Department of Justice (DOJ) to strictly implement a four-day on-site workweek, in response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call for energy conservation amid rising oil prices triggered by tensions in the Middle East.
Under the temporary arrangement, DOJ support personnel will report on-site from Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while Fridays will be designated as mandatory work-from-home (WFH) days.
Frontline services, meanwhile, will remain fully operational from Monday to Friday through staggered personnel shifts to ensure that service counters and public assistance desks continue to serve the public without disruption.
With this measure, the DOJ is expected to save an estimated 20,142 kWh per month.
In addition, all inter-agency meetings, seminars, and similar engagements will default to virtual platforms, whenever feasible, to support the governmentβs energy conservation efforts.
The arrangement will remain in effect until further notice.
The directive is in line with Memorandum Circular No. 114 signed by Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto on 06 March 2026, which instructs all government agencies under the Executive branch to adopt an Energy Conservation Protocol aimed at mitigating the impact of rising oil prices, attributed to the ongoing Middle East tensions.
"The DOJ stands committed to energy conservation while upholding our mandate to deliver swift and accessible justice," said Secretary Vida.
All DOJ offices are also directed to ensure uninterrupted and efficient service delivery under the new work arrangement.
