In the Processed food sector, one of the most popular "pasalubong" items of tourists are native delicacies of the province which is the peanut brittle or 'piniato" and popped rice or "ampaw" produced by Soling's Food Products. In fact, these two (2) products considered fast selling in Camiguin among tourists, both foreign and domestic. The Soling's Food Products started with humble beginnings and
handed down to generations. Aling Soling, the owner's mother, started processing just a little volume of peanut brittle and sold it within the neighborhood. Now, it is a family business composed of a husband and wife team, led by Aling Soling's daughter Marcelina. In fact, the business named after the mother "Nang Soling" who originally started the "piniato" during the 1060s. The province wide increase in market acceptability of the peanut brittle has grown to be one of the famous delicacies in The Camiguin. It is regarded as one of the Camiguin's best among domestic and local tourists as far as "pasalubong" items are concerned. The sales revenues generated by Soling's Food Products substantially contributed to the average annual growth rate of the province during the past five (5) years and generating employment in the locality. From the very small profit of peanut brittle and until now, the owner was able to build a decent home of his own and provided good education to the children as well. Tested through rough timesin the effect of economic crisis, the firm continues to grow. In fact, about five (5) years ago, a new product line has been produced and is now gaining popularity among residents and tourists as well. This is the homemade popped rice or "ampaw". Riding on the popularity not just in Northern Mindanao but in the other key cities in the Philippines and track record established by the peanut brittle, ampaw became the favorite delicacy among local residents and tourists alike. The success of Soling's Food Products is also owed to the various assisstance provided by various local and national government agencies in terms of product promotion, product development, technology improvement, quality and productivity and most importantly financial assistance for capital needs. These are the Spanish assistance Integrated Livelihood(SAIL) Program of the Provincial LGU, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Department of Science and Techonology (DOST), among others. IN, 2009, they marked and passed screening to participate the International Food exhibition (IFEX) held in Manila. Their IFEX participation opened doors for them to be considered as one of the potential exporters in the province and being enrolled in the DTI's Export Pathways Program (EPP). The increasing trend of tourists arrivals and an enormous market acceptance made "Soling's Food Products" one of the very successful businesses in the province of Camiguin.
