In celebration of the International Day of Plant Health, the Department of Agriculture โ Bureau of Plant Industry, National Plant Quarantine Services Division (DA-BPI-NPQSD), joins the global community in advancing plant health as a fundamental pillar of food security, environmental sustainability, safe trade, and public well-being.
With the 2026 theme, โPlant Biosecurity for Food Security and Nutrition,โ this observance underscores the critical role of effective plant protection and quarantine measures in preventing the entry and spread of invasive pests and plant diseases that threaten agricultural productivity, biodiversity, and the countryโs food systems. Strengthened plant biosecurity safeguards local agriculture, supports sustainable livelihoods, promotes safe and nutritious food, and enhances the resilience of farming communities amid increasing global trade and climate-related challenges.
The DA-BPI-NPQSD remains steadfast in its mandate to implement science-based quarantine regulations, rigorous inspection and monitoring activities, and internationally aligned phytosanitary measures consistent with global plant health standards. Through strengthened inter-agency cooperation, stakeholder engagement, and public awareness, the Bureau continues to reinforce the countryโs commitment to protecting Philippine agriculture and ensuring the safe movement of plants and plant products.
As we commemorate this significant global observance, the DA-BPI-NPQSD calls upon all stakeholdersโincluding government agencies, industry partners, academic institutions, farmers, traders, and the general publicโto actively support plant health initiatives and promote responsible biosecurity practices. Collective action is essential in building a resilient, sustainable, and food-secure future for present and future generations.
Together, let us uphold the importance of plant health in sustaining life, protecting livelihoods, and enabling agricultural prosperity.
