In celebration of the International Day of Plant Health, the Department of Agriculture โ€“ Bureau of Plant Industry, National Plant Quarantine Services Division (DA-BPI-NPQSD), joins the global community in advancing plant health as a fundamental pillar of food security, environmental sustainability, safe trade, and public well-being.

With the 2026 theme, โ€œPlant Biosecurity for Food Security and Nutrition,โ€ this observance underscores the critical role of effective plant protection and quarantine measures in preventing the entry and spread of invasive pests and plant diseases that threaten agricultural productivity, biodiversity, and the countryโ€™s food systems. Strengthened plant biosecurity safeguards local agriculture, supports sustainable livelihoods, promotes safe and nutritious food, and enhances the resilience of farming communities amid increasing global trade and climate-related challenges.

The DA-BPI-NPQSD remains steadfast in its mandate to implement science-based quarantine regulations, rigorous inspection and monitoring activities, and internationally aligned phytosanitary measures consistent with global plant health standards. Through strengthened inter-agency cooperation, stakeholder engagement, and public awareness, the Bureau continues to reinforce the countryโ€™s commitment to protecting Philippine agriculture and ensuring the safe movement of plants and plant products.

As we commemorate this significant global observance, the DA-BPI-NPQSD calls upon all stakeholdersโ€”including government agencies, industry partners, academic institutions, farmers, traders, and the general publicโ€”to actively support plant health initiatives and promote responsible biosecurity practices. Collective action is essential in building a resilient, sustainable, and food-secure future for present and future generations.

Together, let us uphold the importance of plant health in sustaining life, protecting livelihoods, and enabling agricultural prosperity.

This May 1, 2026, the National Plant Quarantine Services Division (NPQSD) joins the global community in celebrating International Labor Dayโ€”a tribute to the dedication, resilience, and invaluable contributions of workers across all sectors.

As stewards of plant health and biosecurity, NPQSD recognizes that the strength of our agricultural systems and the safety of our natural resources are made possible through the collective efforts of farmers, inspectors, scientists, and frontline personnel. Their commitment safeguards food security, facilitates safe trade, and protects our nationโ€™s biodiversity from invasive threats.

On this day, we reaffirm our support for the rights, welfare, and continuous development of every worker. May this occasion inspire renewed appreciation for labor in all its forms and strengthen our shared responsibility toward sustainable growth and national progress.

Travelers who would like to bring these commodities to the Philippines for personal consumption (not exceeding 10 kg) must:

1. CHECK IF THE PRODUCT IS RESTRICTED OR NOT ALLOWED FOR IMPORTATION INTO THE PHILIPPINES
If the product is not on the list of approved items for importation into the Philippines, travelers are prohibited from bringing it into the country. The list can be accessed on the National Plant Quarantine Services Division's website at https://npqsd.bpi-npqsd.com.ph/import/

2. CHECK IF THE PRODUCT IS RESTRICTED OR PROHIBITED FOR EXPORT BY THAILAND
The list of prohibited plants for export is available on the Airport of Thailand (AOT)โ€™s website at https://suvarnabhumi.airportthai.co.th/service/airport-guide/detail/ProhibitedPlantforExport

3. SECURE REQUIRED PHYTOSANITARY DOCUMENTS ONLINE FOR PRODUCTS THAT ARE ALLOWED FOR EXPORT BY THAILAND AND IMPORT BY THE PHILIPPINES
-Plant Quarantine Clearance (PQC) from the Bureau of Plant Industry, Department of Agriculture, Philippines - apply at https://www.intercommerce.com.ph/registrationbpi.asp
-Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) from the Plant Control Group, Office of Agricultural Regulation, Department of Agriculture - apply at http://nsw.doa.go.th

UPON ARRIVAL IN THE PHILIPPINES, you are required to declare the imported product and present the PQC and PC to the Customs and Plant Quarantine authorities stationed at the international airport.

Please note that if you are not able to secure a PQC and a PC prior to arrival, your products may be confiscated by the Customs and Plant Quarantine authorities at the airport.
