The English Society shines a spotlight on a venerable educator whose years in the profession have given him a wealth of experience in teaching and working with generations of learners. His journey in education reflects the knowledge and perspective gained through years of being part of the teaching profession.

His chosen literary quote, β€œTo thine own self, be true,” from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, speaks of authenticity and staying true to oneself. It reminds us that education goes beyond gaining knowledge. It also teaches us to know who we are, stand by our principles, and remain true to ourselves.

English Department and English Society join the celebration of the International Literacy month.

Since 1967, International Literacy Day (ILD) celebrations have taken place annually around the world to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society.

UNESCO will celebrate International Literacy Day (ILD) on 8 September 2023 under the theme 'Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies'.
