Right after the NIH Flag Ceremony, the Philippine Eye Research Institute (PERI) brought vision care closer to our NIH kapamilya through the PERI Eye Wellness Booth Activity! 🎉

This initiative aimed to promote eye health awareness, encourage early detection of vision concerns, and reinforce proper eye care practices among NIH employees.

🇵🇭 NIH FLAG CEREMONY | August 17, 2026
Hosted by the Philippine Eye Research Institute (PERI)

Despite the heavy downpour, the spirit of service and science shone bright as PERI proudly hosted the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Flag Ceremony last August 17, 2026, held inside the NIH Hall Building.

🎙️ In his opening remarks, PERI Director Dr. Harvey S. Uy shared an inspiring look into the progress and future of ophthalmic research, highlighting PERI's continuing commitment to advancing eye care and vision science in the Philippines.

🌟 We were also honored to welcome our special guest, Dr. Miguel Angelo S. Mantaring, Director IV of the Bureau of Learning Support System – Department of Education, who recognized the impact of PERI's research on Filipino learners — especially the National Vision Screening Program and other studies dedicated to improving children's vision and learning outcomes nationwide.

☔ Rain or shine, our commitment to research, service, and better eye health for every Filipino continues!

💙 A Message That Opened Our Eyes 👁️

Last August 2 2026 at the Bayview Park Hotel Manila, our PERI Director Harvey S. Uy, MD, stood before fellow advocates, partners, and friends to share a heartfelt message of support for the Department of Health's sponsored Sight Saving Month celebration themed:"Walk for Sight, See Clearly, Live Fully".

With sincerity and passion, our Director reminded everyone that sight is a gift too often taken for granted — and that every step, every advocacy, and every partnership brings us closer to a Philippines where preventable blindness is a thing of the past.

"Behind every statistic is a face, a family, a story waiting to see hope again," were the words that resonated throughout the room — a message that captured why PERI continues to stand alongside DOH in this advocacy. 🌟

It was truly an inspiring moment shared with everyone who continues to champion the cause of eye care and vision health for all Filipinos.

Together, let's keep the vision alive — one message, one walk, one life at a time. 👣💙

👣 A Walk Worth Seeing 👀

Last August 2, 2026 our PERI family laced up and hit the streets for the celebration of August Sight Saving Month sponsored by DOH with theme "Walk for Sight, See Clearly, Live Fully"— starting from 6:00A.M. CCP grounds all the way to Rizal Park, Manila!

It wasn't just a walk. Every step was a reminder of why we do what we do — raising awareness for eye health and giving hope to those who dream of seeing the world clearly again. 🌅

The sun was up, the energy was higher, and the smiles never stopped. From CCP's open skies to the historic grounds of Rizal Park, we walked together — one step, one cause, one vision. 💙

To everyone who joined, cheered, and supported this advocacy — Maraming Salamat! Your presence made this walk truly meaningful.
