Manila Heritage Tours Santa Ana
A major iron-making center during the 11th-Century Kingdom of Namayan, thrived by the river and initiated extensive maritime trading with neighboring lands.
First declared as Archaeological Site and later classified as Histo-Cultural Heritage Overlay Zone The original name of Santa Ana before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors was Namayan, a small settlement whose last recorded rulers were Lakan Tagkan or Lacantagean, and his wife Queen Buwan or Bouan ("Moon"). The Muslim kingdom’s domain stretched from what is now Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasay, and the Manila districts of Pandacan and Paco.

The Last Dance : This photo was taken on December 1, 1941, at the Santa Ana Cabaret, owned by John Canson. The dance hall glowed with Christmas lights and giant parols, setting a festive mood. Many servicemen were enjoying their liberty that night—unaware that in just seven days, Manila would face the devastating Japanese attack that would change history forever.

‘SISIKAPIN NAMING MAGING TAMA, MALINAW, AT MAGALANG’
The Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) issued a public apology on Saturday following the statement released by the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Sta. Ana, Manila, which addressed a “confusing entry” in the mayor’s “First 100 Days Recap” published on October 8, 2025.
In its earlier statement, the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Abandoned refuted the report titled “Pagsasaayos ng Sta. Ana National Shrine,” clarifying that the retrofitting of the church was funded entirely by private benefactors, not by the city government.
In a follow-up post, the church responded to their statement, saying: We welcome the apology and clarification issued by the Manila Public Information Office… We support the Mayor’s commitment to heritage preservation in Santa Ana and look forward to the resolution of the concerns raised by the parishioners and church administration regarding the Suntrust Ascentia issue.
