Senator Ping Lacson hit back at Senator Rodante Marcoleta for criticizing the minority bloc’s lack of sympathy when DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Senate President Alan Cayetano had a heated confrontation during the arrest of Senator Jinggoy Estrada at the Senate on Monday.

“So, kasalanan pa ng minority bloc na hindi nag-protesta dahil sinigawan ang Senate President natin? Actually, laking pasasalamat nga namin na hindi siya binigwasan ni Sec. Jonvic dahil sa inasal niya kahapon,” said Lacson.

Marcoleta earlier lamented that the minority senators neither voiced support for Estrada nor questioned Remulla's approach to enforcing the Sandiganbayan's arrest order in the non-bailable plunder case involving alleged flood control corruption inside the chamber.

“Pagkatapos sila wala man lang ipinakita na protesta, halimbawa, ‘Huwag mo naman sisigawan ang Senate President namin.’ Kami-kami ‘yun, 24 kami. Dapat walang iwanan dun,” said Marcoleta, referring to the clash between Remulla and Cayetano, who maintained that the police should arrest and read Estrada his rights outside the chamber.

Senators failed to convene for their scheduled plenary session at 5 PM on June 1, 2026, due to the majority bloc’s no-show act, with only 11 minority members present. Cayetano, who accompanied Estrada during his arrest, urged the minority to “let the Senate go quiet” and support them in maintaining the independence of the institution.

Moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are expected over Nueva Ecija(Nampicuan, Guimba, Gapan, General Tinio, Penaranda, San Leonardo, Santa Rosa, Palayan, Laur, Gabaldon), Zambales(Palauig, Masinloc, Santa Cruz, Candelaria), Quezon(Infanta, Real, Mauban, Polillo), Bulacan(San Miguel, Dona Remedios Trinidad), Batangas(Calatagan, Balayan, Lian, Tuy, Nasugbu) and Cavite(Magallanes, Maragondon, Ternate, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Alfonso) within the next 2 hours.

The above conditions are being experienced in Tarlac(Gerona, Santa Ignacia, Paniqui, Camiling) which may persist within 2 hours and may affect nearby areas.

All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides.
