Summary:
Typhoons can strike the Philippines year-round, with nearly 85-90% occurring between May and October. Based on historical trends, 10–14 tropical cyclones may enter or form in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between May and October, with more expected later in the year.
Typhoons can bring heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, landslides, storm surges, and power outages. U.S. citizens in the Philippines should be prepared and vigilant throughout the year.

Actions to Take:
1. Stay Informed by monitoring weather warning announcements

•PAGASA: Official Philippine government forecasts and typhoon warnings

•A flashlight, batteries, and a power bank
•Bottled water and food that doesn’t spoil
•Cash (ATMs and card readers may not work)
•First-aid kit and battery-powered radio

3. Make a Safety Plan:
•Know if you live in a flood zone or an area at risk of landslides or storm surge.
•Learn evacuation routes and the location of nearby shelters.
•Set up a communication plan with family and friends in case you lose power or signal.

4. Prepare Your Home
•Ensure drainage systems are clear of debris.
•Tie down outdoor items.
•Trim overhanging branches.
•Identify a safe place inside your home to shelter during a storm.
