TVET programs are slowly gaining recognition among our local industry stakeholders. In the healthcare sector, certification for Pharmacy Services NC III is mandatory for prospective workers in the retail pharmaceutical industry. However, this cannot be said for other industry worker qualifications. Employers still attach greater value on acquisition of general education credits as a condition for employment.

It goes without saying that employers hire workers with skills needed in the workplace. Following this thread, it behooves our government regulators to place TVET education at par with academic training. Granting additional career incentives for TVET-certified workers will provide the needed impetus for parity.

Acquisition of workplace competencies through OBT training, assessment and certification is the best pathway in creating a highly skilled and employable workforce.
